How to Add Youtube videos in PowerPoint Presentations

Suppose you want to show a presentation which will contain a video clipping.You want to include a video from the web (e.g Youtube,Google video etc) or from your hard disk.

There are two situations when you would like to show your presentation containing the Youtube video.And they are

A : You will be viewing the presentation containing the Youtube video in a computer containing an internet connection.

B : You will be adding the you tube video in PowerPoint slides but will play your presentations offline.

There are two different procedures.Let’s see each of them :

A : Add Youtube videos in PowerPoint and Play the slides when internet is available

If you will be showing your presentations in an environment containing an internet connection then follow the steps mentioned below :

1.Download the You tube PowerPoint plugin and install it. There are two versions available,one for Power point 2003 and another for PowerPoint 2007.

2.Extract the contents of the package and start Microsoft PowerPoint.

3.Double click the PowerPoint add-in executable that comes with the zip file.Power point will show a security message regarding Macros.Select “Enable macros”

4.To insert the video select the insert tab and click on “You tube video”.

5.This will start a video adding wizard.Just add the You tube video URL and the video will be added in your Power point presentation.

You can further select to either loop the video or simply play it when the slide is shown.The video size and position can also be adjusted as per your requirements.

B: Add Youtube Videos in PowerPoint Presentations But View the slides offline

When you are not connected to the internet the You tube video added in the presentation won’t play.So you have to download the You tube video in your computer,convert the video into proper formats and add the converted clip into PowerPoint.

PowerPoint supports movies only in AVI and WMV formats so you can download the desired youtube video as AVI from Mediaconvertor.After you have downloaded the video as AVI,insert the video in PowerPoint from Insert—> Movie and you are done.
