Here are few things that you can now do with the new theater viewing layout for Facebook images.

1. Adding Location: The new feature lets you add location to any image while viewing it, which was previously not possible after an image was already uploaded. You have to do it from the maps feature. But now you can alter the location of any of your uploaded images at time you choose directly from the image viewing screen.

2. Specify a date to show it on your timeline: Since the new timeline has launched and has constantly being promoted, you can add any image to your timeline from the timeline page of your profile. With the new theater mode you can add any image to your timeline right from the interface you are viewing it. That’s neat.

Apart from these all the older features are still present there which are rotating images, tagging people or choosing them as your profile picture. The new change looks more tidy and the left to right positioning of the elements (comments, location, date, description etc) offers complete viewing without you needing to scroll down through the page.

It’s hard to tell if the new layout is live for everyone but quite a few people have it already activated on their profile as far my connections go. Well my guess is this is still in beta phase and live for a few people only. Here’s a sneak peek before you can try your hands on it.

Update: The new photoviewer is rolled out for all users.

Facebook Rolls Out New Layout for Theater Mode Picture Viewing originally published on Ampercent

Need To Access A Remote PC? With Techinline You Just Need A Browser originally published on Ampercent

I have always been a fan of tools that serve a purpose without actually needing any third party installation. The cult of web-based applications has come a long way and truly makes life portable. All you need is just a browser. Here is a new web app that enables remote access to a computer with just a browser.

Techinline Remote Desktop has all the necessary requisites to complete a remote support session. Here goes a few of them that makes the tool an obvious choice for pros as well as rookie home users.

Features:

1. Two Way Desktop Sharing: The one and most important feature to be there for any such tool. Whether you just need access your home PC or need to help a friend troubleshoot a PC issue, this tool completes any task that needs a bi-directional communication between two PC.

2. Remote Reboot and Reconnect: This features comes handy if you are providing support to anyone. Configuration changes that often need the PC to reboot can well be performed without any extra effort to reconnect to the remote PC after the PC boots up after a system restart.

3. Browser Based: The tool needs just a browser to establish a powerful enough remote access between two PCs.

4. Three Step Connection: This is actually as easy as it says. Three steps (refer the How-to section below) are all you need to have a remote connection set up and running.

5. Keeps a Complete Log: If you are a PC support professional event and session logs are the most necessary items to keep track of your support sessions and better plan the next steps to get the problem solved on the remote PC. The reporting tool is all you need to have a complete log. The logs are available in Excel and PDF formats.

6. Multi-monitor Support: Multiple monitors connected to the remote PC may as well be managed without much hassle.

7. Firewall Transparency: Firewalls can be a mess to deal with while setting up a remote connection. However this issue has been dealt with by the developers. No matter which firewall or proxy settings you are dealing with, this tool provides a secure connection to bypass the barrier.

8. Drag and Drop Sharing: Bi-directional sharing of files or clipboard items can’t get better. Just drag and drop from any of the PCs and the transfer is handled smoothly by the application.

9. Instant Messenger: Needless to say a proper communication needs to be maintained between the human users to fulfill the purpose of the remote access. With the instant messenger you can always stay connected with the other party.

10 Security: All these power, a tool can still be vulnerable. Since data transfer and administrative access are involved with the process a fail-proof security is always necessary. Remote access with Techinline Remote Desktop is safer with SSL,two-factor authentication, code signing certificates. Read the complete documentation here.

3 Easy Steps – Voila You Are Connected:

1. Browse to this page and sign in to your account.

2. Once you are in, you will need to have an unique 6-digit number to connect with the other computer. The code for that PC (on the other end) can be generated from this page. Note that you need to install an extension (on the remote PC) to get this step working. So once prompted go ahead with the installation. You will also an option to send the client ID via email.

3. Now use this code (from the remote PC) to get connected. Refer the screenshot below to get a clear idea.

On a concluding note, I find the tool a worthy choice for any professional or any general PC user. The array of features you get a complete solution for all your worries that demand a remote connection. However good things come at a price. The plans are very flexible and worth giving a try. Also you have a choice to try it for 15 days before you actually buy it. Go ahead and enjoy a safer and feature-full remote desktop connection.

Need To Access A Remote PC? However having a team means a multitude of tasks at hand, more confusions and more chances of a failed task. You need the right skills and the right tools to avoid all of that. There are great event tracking tools and collaboration tools, but when it comes to a complete tool comprising both, choices are a little less. Comindware Task Manager (CTM) intends to bridge the gap. Let us see some key features that can make the tool an essential choice.

1. Universal Support And Interactive UI:

Microsoft Outlook is one of the most used task creation tools and CTM provides support for it. So you can use Outlook to create and edit any task for CTM. The tool also promises to have support for other tools too.

The tool is based on semantic technology and offers Microsoft alike ribbon-based interface making it a easy-to-use tool for any Windows user.

2. Creation, Management & Collaboration:

Being a standalone Task Manager you can use CTM to create tasks with an unlimited hierarchy. Once created the tasks can be assigned to people and also their roles can be defined based on the actions they can perform on the task. Workspaces is an important feature you can use to define the access rules. This feature offers better accountability.

The task at hand can be managed and worked upon by a team. This elevates the productivity level for the team. Team leaders can better monitor the progress, time spent, cost for the project/task ensuring the successful execution of the task.

Scheduling tasks with a calendar view and notifications help reduce the chances of a failed task.

3. Economic Solution:

The tool offers a variety of useful features to make the job easier for you. However, the price you pay for all of this is nothing. So practically you lose nothing to use it and hence makes it more of an opportunity to have this event tracking tool for your organisation or just for personal use.

The tool is yet to be available for users, but you can pre-register for a free copy by filling up the form here. For more information on the features and benefits of this tool head over to the task management tool’s homepage.

Andrew Carnegie once remarked, ”No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it”. True to its last word, many is better than one. A team effort can do wonders if the team can plan and collaborate on tasks in an efficient way. Comindware Task Manager is tool that can help you yield better results with your team. Give it shot and see for yourself if it meets your demands.

Comindware Task Manager: A Complete Event Management Solution For Windows originally published on Ampercent

Activate The Hidden Administrator Account in Windows 8

Windows

Feature

Tricks and Tutorials

Windows 8

Try this simple trick to enable built-in administrator account in Windows 8. The account enjoyed all the administrative rights to everything that can be possibly done with Windows. It (the admin user account) used to be there in plain sight and we could use it right form the installation as the default account without needing any special tweaks. However, with the advent of Windows Vista, came the User Account Control with better restrictions to avoid any glitches. As a result the admin account was gone. Well it was there all the time only you needed the right way (an one-liner command line execution) to unhide it. Like the previous versions it is still comes as hidden account in the newest Microsoft offering, Windows 8.

So let us see how to enable built-in administrator account in Windows 8.

1. Type lusrmgr.msc on start screen and open the app that appears as the search result. Alternatively start the Run (Windows Key + R), type lusrmgr.msc and hit enter. This will open the Local Users and Account Manager (LUSRMGR).

2. In the LUSRMGR window, double click the users folder to show the list of local user accounts.

3. Once the Administrator account is there, right-click on it and choose Properties. In the Properties dialog, uncheck the option “Account is disabled”.

4. As mentioned earlier, since the admin account enjoys all the rights and is free from UAC, it is highly recommended to maintain a strong password to ensure secured access. To change the password, right click on the Administrator user and choose Set Password.

5. You will be shown a warning stating the risks of changing the password. Read it and use the Proceed button to go to the password changing dialog.

6. Change the password in the next window and press OK. Th password will be needed next time you want to access the administrator account from the logon screen.

Restart or log off from your current account to see the changes in action.

The administrative account is kept hidden purposefully for for making the system fool-proof against any unintended (or intended) misuse of the OS. So it is for you to safe keep the account and be extra sure while doing any configuration changes using this account. You can revert back to the default settings by disabling the the account from the properties dialog mentioned in step 3.

Activate The Hidden Administrator Account in Windows 8 originally published on Ampercent

The New Facebook – A Complete New Way Of Sharing And Telling Who You Are

Internet

Facebook

Featured

Social Networking

With a whole lot of new features let us take a quick look at what it says and find out if it makes our Facebook experience more social.

The New Facebook – A Complete New Way Of Sharing And Telling Who You Are originally published on Ampercent

Facebook, as we know it, is all about telling the world about you like, sharing what you are doing and doing a lot more to express yourself to your friends. Well it will do a lot more than that now. Today at the Facebook F8 Developer Conference, the company has made some announcements that will take your social experience to a completely new level.

Timeline – The Way You Wanna Share Your Life

A complete new approach to tell your story. Story of your life (or the life you lived after you joined Facebook). With all places you’ve been, the movies you watched, the songs you listened, the food you ate/cooked, the mood swings you’ve had and even the trails of your morning walk, it’s a complete new look at who you are. Archiving every detail of your life you’ve shared on Facebook is what the new Timeline is introduced for. The whole idea is based on the idea of Information Designing. An Infographic of your Life.

With all the apps at your service the story you tell will be more of a visual experience for the friend who’s interested.

Interesting. Isn’t it?? Try out the new Facebook Timeline.

The “More” Social Apps – The Reason You Are On Facebook

With a better Open Graph, the future Facebook apps are going to make your Facebook experience more *social*. As Spotify CEO Daniel Ek truly remarks, finding music is best while browsing through friends’ collection. That is what Facebook social apps is all about. No more liking a book, a movie, a song. The experience is more real, more human. You can now read a book, watch a movie or listen to a song. Or in easy words, say what actually do. Not just saying, with the new range of apps, your friends can do the same things with you. They can too listen to the same song you are listening now, share their views on it or recommend you a better one. That is the power of networking.

With pattern recognition the apps will have better control on what to recommend for you based on what you have done earlier. Find what’s best suited for you, you are likely to get exposed to a whole new horizon of songs, movies, books, news, places etc you would not have found otherwise. Facebook has not only announced this feature but also to demonstrate a way to what’s best, have partnered with some of the giants in the above niche. With Yahoo, Spotify, Netflix and plenty more the service is going to be bigger and better. A smart move that will set high standards for apps to come.

Integration of all this likes to your timeline is under your complete control making it even easier for you to express yourself in a much better way. All this with nothing but a touch of a button named Add to Timeline.

Sharing being the focus of all the above experiment, you do not have to worry about the annoying pop-ups from the apps you love. Pop-ups that tell you to share whatever you have used that app for. It will now be auto-posted. Saying this, it may feel that the news feed is going to get more cluttered with apps your friends use. Wait, it won’t be. This will be there on the newly introduced ticker to the right. However if a pattern is figured out that may be of your interest, the update might also get placed on your main feed.

The Final Conclusion

All said we better not forget the annoyances Facebook has created in the past. But the change definitely promises to be more engaging and adds a more personal touch. Think of this, when have you last enjoyed a song with that friend from school? You can feel that fun again. The move if executed properly will definitely catapult Facebook higher in the social industry ladder. No wonder, it is always better to do things that you love with people whom you love or people who admires your choice. At the end of the day that defines the social game.

The New Facebook – A Complete New Way Of Sharing And Telling Who You Are originally published on Ampercent

Bring Back That Old Windows 7 Style Start Menu To Windows 8

Windows

Feature

Registry Hacks

Windows 8

Windows Start Menu

It has been almost a week since Microsoft has rolled out Windows 8 Developer Preview. And the buzz about the Windows Re-Imagined Start screen is yet to settle. While some are pitching for it there are voices that express the discomfort using the new interface. And the buzz about the Windows Re-Imagined Start screen is yet to settle. While some are pitching for it there are voices that express the discomfort using the new interface. One thing is clear by now, that this debate has hardly started and is going to stay for some time. Until then, let us look out for a solution that can address this issue. So if you are loving the new start screen, just keep enjoying it with more metro style apps to come. However, if you are keen on getting back the old Windows style start menu, here is a simple registry tweak for you.

1. Start Run (Windows Key + R). Type regedit and hit enter to open the registry editor.

NOTE 1: Prior to making any changes in the Windows registry, it is recommended to backup Windows registry settings so you can revert back in case something goes wrong.

2. Now from the left pane, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. Once that is done, look out for the registry key RPEnabled.

3. Now double-click the entry to change the DWORD data value to 0 (zero). Once that is done, close the registry editor and restart Windows (or just log off and log back in) to see the changes in effect.

Windows 8 Start Menu Toggle

Now if you are not comfortable with playing around your registry settings, here is a tool named Windows 8 Start Menu Toggle that can do the job for you. You will need to install .Net 3.5.1 to use this application. Once prompted proceed by accepting changes.

NOTE 2: Once you make a change to the registry settings Windows will throw this message,

Unauthorized use or disclosure in any manner may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment (in case of employees), termination of an assignment or contract (in case of contingent staff), and potential civil and criminal liability.

Disclaimer: We will not be held responsible for any legal actions against you for adopting the above method. This tutorial is covered only for educational purposes.

If you want to revert back to the default settings just follow the steps 1-3 and change the DWORD data value to 1.

Well, what do you think of the new start screen. Are you loving it or do you think it’s a big annoyance in the latest Microsoft offering?

Bring Back That Old Windows 7 Style Start Menu To Windows 8 originally published on Ampercent

Follow Lyrics Of Your Favorite Numbers While You Listen To Them

Software

Audio Tool

Feature

Freeware

Windows Media player

If are someone like me, who believes the charm in a song is incomplete until you understand every word of it, follow this simple steps to show lyrics of songs on your music player while playing your favorite numbers.

Follow Lyrics Of Your Favorite Numbers While You Listen To Them originally published on Ampercent

Few music videos display lyrics. So it has become a common practice to search for it manually. Moreover, we must open the player as well as the lyrics file and toggle between the two windows while listening to our favorite numbers. Now leave behind all these hassles and follow the lyrics while listening to your favorite songs.

Our Bet, Minilyrics

MiniLyrics is an add-on to a music player. It acts as a tool which automatically searches, retrieves and displays the synchronized scrolling lyrics for the song that is playing.

The Behind Story

Well it has a growing database of lyrics. The moment your player starts playing a number, MiniLyrics will search the lyrics for that song in the database and displays it in a synchronized manner along with the song being played. If you change songs in your play list MiniLyrics automatically switches to the appropriate lyrics.

At present MiniLyrics supports around 24 players. These are Zune., Yahoo! Music Engine, XMPlay, Winamp, Windows Media Player, VLC media player, Songbird, RealPlayer, Musicmatch Jukebox, MediaMonkey, jetAudio, J. River Media Center, iTunes, Helium Music Manager, BSPlayer and AIMP to name a few. Merely installing MiniLyrics is not sufficient for all the players. Some players may need some settings changes to run MiniLyrics.

MiniLyrics is not just limited to searching and displaying lyrics in a synchronized manner. It offers more. Now users can write and submit lyrics as well as download and edit lyrics using the built-in lyrics editor. The lyrics can be saved in Lyrics3v2, unsynchronized and synchronized ID3v2 formats. This results in multiple lyrics for the same number. Users can select any one particular lyric in such a scenario. Users must register in order to do these changes.

Users can also change the tempo of the scrolling lyric while the song being played is not in sync with the scrolling.

I tried MiniLyrics with Windows Media Player and its works fine. It was great new experience. VLC player needs some preference settings to start MiniLyrics automatically along with it.

Try Lyrics Plugin

Lyrics plugin is yet another choice that does the job for you. All you need to do is download the necessary plugin for the player of your choice and install it on your system. Currently supported players are Windows Media Player, Winamp and iTunes. The best part about this plugin is that if any lyrics isn’t available by default, you can add them.

A Little Bit More

I’m a music addict and I enjoy finding out about new tracks rather than staying glued to my library and the latest releases. Hence now and then I feel compelled to delve into an artist/album I just enjoyed. You can try Lyrics n Music which is nice resource for Wikipedia pages, related images, videos and songs available for listening on popular streaming websites and online stores where you can buy it.

So that’s it and if you are looking for more, head over to this page for more Windows media player tricks. Happy listening.

Follow Lyrics Of Your Favorite Numbers While You Listen To Them originally published on Ampercent

Wanna Tell The World “I’m Expecting”? And above all, this is surely something to talk about and share with all your loved ones. And when it comes to sharing, no other service beats Facebook. Until now you can surely post a status update on Facebook to share the news with friends and family. Now you can add your new child as your family member and announce your pregnancy.

Facebook has recently rolled out a new feature. It was too quite to notice. The new feature in question lets you broadcast your pregnancy to the world via Facebook. Expectant can display the expecting child under their family members. Although, there will no new account creation for the child and it will be listed under the parent profile only.

How to do all of that

1. Go to your profile.

2. Click the Edit Profile and finally go to your Friends and Family section to add a new member.

3. Add a name and then in the select relation dropdown choose “Expected: Child”.

4. Hit Save Changes button to add the new member.

Once added your profile will display the expected child with a default Facebook profile image and a new status will be posted under your recent activity.

The funny part…

It was reported, that the new Facebook feature has a flaw, like always, which lets you tag any friend on Facebook as your “Expected child”. Not only that Facebook also asks the tagged person to verify the newly tagged relation. However, Facebook did a quick fix and it is fine now.

However, a new glitch has surfaced. I tried adding a name with a different surname for my *expected* son. And it worked. Its true anybody can choose their name but for an infant or yet-to-be-born his legal parents got the right to decide the name and that is necessary for all legal claims, right?

Wanna Tell The World “I’m Expecting”? Now you can. Head over to Google Web Fonts and you can choose from 197 font families ( and even more ).

The interface lists all the available fonts that you can download from the Google Fonts directory. Every font comes with a nice preview so you can see how they look before you choose whether to download it or not. Once you have decided to download any font click the “Add to Collection” button (to the right) to add them to your collection. You can add multiple fonts to your collection and download the collection to get the chosen fonts all at once.

There is also a search feature that you can use to search for your favorite font in the Google font repository. Below the search box there are different filters which you use to narrow the search for the font of your choice.

The font preview can also be customized to get the feel of the text (say, you are looking for a font for your project/website header) you wish to use the font for. You can choose to edit the display text and its size. You can also choose to display the preview in three modes, word, sentence and paragraph.

Once you are done adding the fonts of your choice to the collection, you can go ahead and download Google web fonts to install them on your computer.

The fonts in the Google font gallery can also be used on any webpage adopting proper CSS methods. For that you need to choose “Use” from the bottom right corner (refer screenshot above). The page that loads next will help you with insights(impact on page load time) and procedures to use the font(s) on your web page.

Use Google Web Fonts On Your Computer Or Your Websites originally published on Ampercent

Play’em: Watch Videos Shared By Your Facebook Friends

Web Tools

Facebook

Feature

Video Tool

Are you looking out for ways to watch great videos? However, considering the mass of Facebook sharers it is hard to keep track of every update. So here is something you were looking for so long. An app that hand picks all the videos shared by your Facebook friends. Yes only the videos and that also streamed as a playlist.

Go to Play’em website and connect the app with your Facebook account. Once you have connected them successfully, the page will reload and a player will be loaded.

The Player:

On the left side of the player the playlist will be loaded which will feature the videos shared by your Facebook friends. The player also features a section below it. This displays the name(s) of your Facebook friends who shared the video. There is also a Facebook share button which you can use to share any video on your Facebook profile.

The Idea:

I must admit that on numerous occasions I have discovered great videos via Facebook courtesy my friends there. And isn’t that how a social network is supposed to do? This is is the power of networking. Earlier I had to manually search for links shared by my friends and then sort out the videos. However, now that the Play’em is here, I won’t have to waste much of my precious time to look out for good videos. In easy English, the idea is great.

Cons:

1. Is it really necessary to make it compulsory to promote the brand on every share? The “via Playem” link is nice an on every share made through the service.

2. The playlist pane needs to have a scroll. Although all videos are listed, you have no way to see what’s next or choose from the tracked ones until they are played automatically.

Although the tool does what it is meant to do, some cherry on the ice would have made it perfect. I deeply feel for the need of basic playlist controls like Previous, Next, Repeat and Shuffle.

Adrien Joly, the developer, is a drummer himself. He is also working on future projects like Why’d. As for this project, I definitely recommend Facebook users who like me is looking for an easier alternative to watch videos shared by his/her friends to use it. The comments are open and do let your comments about the app flow in.

Play’em: Watch Videos Shared By Your Facebook Friends originally published on Ampercent
