Completely Back up Your Firefox Settings, Installed Add-ons, Bookmarks and Saved passwords
How many times have you thought to Completely back up your Firefox Before you format your System. With MozBackup We can easily Back up our bookmarks, Installed Add-ons, Saved passwords and Settings.
Mozbackup is a fairly Lightweight(1.25 Mb) Application that lets you completely back up your Firefox profile in less than a minute. With Mozbackup you can :
Back up all your Bookmarks in One go : Sure you can back up your Firefox Bookmarks from “Organize Bookmarks—>Export Bookmarks” and Save the Bookmarks as an Html File and later import it.But the problem is that when you restore, you have to manually arrange all the Bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar. This can be irritating if you have Bookmarks spread across a large number of Folders. But Mozbackup is neat and Simple.Just restore the profile and The Bookmark toolbar is back again as it was.You can also Backup your passwords in Mozilla as .csv/.xml file.
Back up all the Installed Add-ons : When you Reinstall Firefox you do not need to Install all your Addons Again. The Back up file will take care of it.With Mozbackup you not only Backup your Important Addons but also backup the data associated with them as well.
Back up your Saved passwords and Usernames : This is a Time saver.I have two dozen Usernames and passwords saved in my Firefox profile.Earlier Whenever I did a fresh Installation of My System and I reinstalled Firefox i felt like Crying…oh my God ! all my passwords and Usernames are Gone. Not any More ,as now i have Mozbackup.
You can also Back Up your Security Certificates,History,Saved form details,Cookies and General Settings. (also read : How to reduce Firefox memory usage)
Use your Firefox Settings with all your Addons in another Computer
Situation :You are Over a Friends house or any Cafe and Surfing the Web using Firefox and your favorite Addons /toolbars are not Installed. You don’t have the time to Install all of them but You Wished you could use them.
Solution A : You can Install Firefox and all your Add-Ons in Your USB using Portable Apps or Mojopack and Use it whenever you are in a Different machine. The Downside is that Both these Apps are Slow (especially on Small USB drives like 2GB) and Uses system Resources heavily. So if you want a really Fast option Use the next Solution.
Solution B : Just backup your Firefox Settings using Mozbackup and Carry The backup file and Mozbackup in your USB.Now when you are in another Computer follow these steps :
1.Backup the Default profile of the Firefox already installed.
2.Restore your Custom Firefox profile and use it.Like you can Capture pages with Scrapbook, save delicious Bookmarks etc etc.
3.When you have finished using it back up the Profile again and save it in your USB.This is your updated Firefox profile. You may wish to mount it in your PC as this one is the most Updated and may Contain Important data.
4.Finally mount the default Profile that you backed up in step 1 using Mozbackup. This is Important as leaving your Firefox Profile in another Machine may expose Your Usernames and passwords.Do not overlook this step.
Remember: MOZbackup is not a Software that You need to Install anyway. So even if you don’t have the Installation permissions Over another PC you can Still backup Firefox profiles.
Back Up your portable Firefox or other Mozilla Applications
If you use Firefox on a USB drive using Portable Apps or Mojopack, you can Back up the portable Profile as well.Mozbackup gives you an option to Specify the location of your portable Firefox Installation.
MozBackup can also be used for creating backups of other Mozilla applications like Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Sunbird,SeaMonkey / Mozilla Suite,Flock,Spicebird,Netscape (7/9),Netscape Messenger. It allows you to backup and restore bookmarks, mail, contacts, history, extensions, cache etc.

Great. Now i can say thank you!
I searched for backup in FF for nearly an hour and just left it. Now, here you are sharing such a wonderful tips to backup FF data. I am trying to install a fresh copy of OS on my computer and I always hesitate this because of the data that I have saved on FF. I have about 50-60 username and password saved in FF.
@ CrazyBlogger : Yep. Using Mozbackup you can completely backup a Firefox profile and use that backup file later on. It’s a lifesaver in case you want to format your system or use the same firefox settings over another computer
I’m thinking of re installing my os soon. I got a browser hijacker that I just cant get rid of. It is affecting Explorer and Firefox. I think it also is preventing me from running programs to get rid of it.I can’t even run Spybot – Search & Destroy , Spyware Terminator or SUPER AntiSpyware. when I try to run the program they are terminated before the even start. My question is will this backup program back up the browser Hijacker as well or will I be safe to reinstall Firefox with this?
@WarDragon if u r using Vista/7 try running the anti-spyware programs as administrator. Though I suggest you backup your passwords, bookmarks, preferences, history and tabs using Firefox Sync. To backup the addons try Siphon. While backing up addons, be selective as the problem may be hidden in any of them also. Try choosing only which are indispensable. I think those are enough to get a backup of the existing Firefox working environment.

Thanks Soumen Halder. I’ll check out Siphon right now. I have been fighting this Hijacker for about two weeks now, Reinstalling isn’t a huge deal because I keep most of my important stuff on a external drive and to lessen the chance of a virus spreading to that drive I only fire it up to retrieve things I need then shut it back down. I am the administrator on this computer in fact I’m the only user on this computer. I also tried running the Spy programs in Safe Mode and got the same results.
Thanks for your help..
