Backup your Gmail – In case you lose the control over it
Backup all your e-mails sent to your Gmail address in case you lose control over it in cases like account suspension, Gmail outage, account hacked etc. You might need it in cases you really have your important documents saved in your Gmail account.
You can do this by adopting any of the following ways. The choice is yours. So, backup your Google mails by
- Using a mail account in another server(in this case Zoho).
- Using Gmail’s Offline mode ( follow instructions ).
- Using Fetchmail ( follow instructions by Gina Trapani ).
- Using Outlook 2007 for Windows or Apple Mail for Mac.
- Using Getmail for Linux ( follow instructions by Matt Cutts ).
- Using Googlegroups ( follow instructions ).
- Using Thunderbird ( follow Google Help Document ).
I’ll be elaborating step 1 only. For all the rest, follow the instruction link for proper procedure.
Backup Gmail using a Zoho mail account :
- Signup for a new Zoho mail account or skip this step if you are already a member.
- Open your Gmail account & go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Now enter your Zoho mailing address in the box shown below and press the save changes button.

This will send all the new mails to your Gmail account from now on. - Now open your Zoho mail account. Now follow the path Settings > Mail Accounts > Add Mail Account.
Now enter the details of your Google(Gmail) mailing account as required. After you are done click on Save. - Click the Back to Mail button to return to your start page of your Zoho mail account.
- Create a new folder named “Gmail” in the left pane where the Inbox resides. Make sure to make it a parent folder. Then create two subfolders named “sent” & ”inbox”. Follow the images below.

- Create a filter now by following the path Settings > Personalize ….@gmail.com > Filters. Now click on the
button. Create 2 filters named “Sent-from-gmail” & ”mails-from-gmail”. See the images below and fill it up as shown.

Now your Zoho mail will fetch the mails from your Gmail account. Rest in peace now.
