Backupify: Backup Social Accounts and Store Online – Free signups Till January 31
Backupify is a cool web based service which can perform scheduled backups of most of your online accounts and store them in Amazon S3. This includes Gmail, Google docs, self hosted WordPress blog, Twitter, Facebook to name a few.
Backupify is a paid service which requires you to pay $4 a month for 2 Gb of storage. But the good news is that now you can claim a free account at Backupify by signing up before 31st January 2009.
Why another Backup ?
You must be wondering what is the need of online backup solution when it’s very easy to backup your WordPress blog, Gmail accounts etc on your own. There are quite a good reasons:
- You do not have to manually backup your blog or emails every week. Online backups are automated and do not require your attention.
- You can backup a majority of your social networking accounts e.g Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Delicious.
- All your backups are stored in the cloud and kept at a central place for easier management.
- You do not have to use any desktop tool to backup photos from Facebook or Flickr or even your browser bookmarks.
Just sign up for a free Backupify account before 31st January 2010 and add up all your social networking accounts. Currently Backupify supports Flickr, Twitter, Google Docs, Zoho docs, Photobucket, Delicious, WordPress, Gmail, Facebook, Friendfeed and Blogger. The service plans to integrate Youtube, Rss, Tumblr and Xmarks very soon.
Example: You want to backup your WordPress blog on every Sunday and store all the files online. Just connect your WordPress blog with your Backupify account (requires plugin). Next, go to your WordPress dashboard and you can manually download a complete website backup. This includes all the files as well as database.
On your scheduled date, Backupify will also create an online backup of your WordPress blog and store the files online. To download the backup file, login to your Backupify account, go to archives and click the backup link. Done!
In the same way, you can choose to take daily or weekly backups of all your social accounts, Google documents, email etc. Backupify also have a daily or weekly email notification system which will notify you of finished backup jobs.
