Go to Play’em website and connect the app with your Facebook account. Once you have connected them successfully, the page will reload and a player will be loaded.

The Player:

On the left side of the player the playlist will be loaded which will feature the videos shared by your Facebook friends. The player also features a section below it. This displays the name(s) of your Facebook friends who shared the video. There is also a Facebook share button which you can use to share any video on your Facebook profile.

The Idea:

I must admit that on numerous occasions I have discovered great videos via Facebook courtesy my friends there. And isn’t that how a social network is supposed to do? This is is the power of networking. Earlier I had to manually search for links shared by my friends and then sort out the videos. However, now that the Play’em is here, I won’t have to waste much of my precious time to look out for good videos. In easy English, the idea is great.

Cons:

1. Is it really necessary to make it compulsory to promote the brand on every share? The “via Playem” link is nice an on every share made through the service.

2. The playlist pane needs to have a scroll. Although all videos are listed, you have no way to see what’s next or choose from the tracked ones until they are played automatically.

Although the tool does what it is meant to do, some cherry on the ice would have made it perfect. I deeply feel for the need of basic playlist controls like Previous, Next, Repeat and Shuffle.

Adrien Joly, the developer, is a drummer himself. He is also working on future projects like Why’d. As for this project, I definitely recommend Facebook users who like me is looking for an easier alternative to watch videos shared by his/her friends to use it. The general way to use Dropbox is to put all your files and folders in the “My Dropbox” folder of your computer and run the Dropbox desktop client. Dropbox will then upload all these files to your Dropbox account and sync it across multiple computers or mobile devices, where you have installed the Dropbox client and connected your Dropbox account. But consider the following situations:

1. You are browsing the web on a public computer and found a really big zip file. You don’t have a removable drive at this moment and you need a super fast way to download the file and access it later.

2. You want to download files from your office computer but have doubts whether the IT guy of your office can track your downloads using a network monitoring software through the shared network connection of your office.

3. You are using a computer without administrative privileges. You are unable to install the Dropbox client but need a quick way to back up files to your Dropbox account, without having to use the Dropbox client.

3. You want other users to upload files to your Dropbox account e.g students, project coordinators, website visitors etc. This can be achieved by creating a public Dropbox upload portal, but what if you don’t have a web server or an active web hosting account?

Here is the solution.

Sidecloudload is a simple web service which can be used to remotely send files to a Dropbox account, without having to download the file on the computer you are using. You don’t have to create an account with them, just sign in with your Dropbox account credentials and grant all the necessary permissions.

Once you are through with setting up Sidecloudload, grab any publicly accessible URL and paste it in the “Source URL” text field. Next, you can choose the Dropbox folder where Sidecloudload will upload the file and hit the “Submit” button.

All done, now you can go about your business, turn off the computer or do anything you want to do, without worrying what happened to the download. Sidecloudload will first download the file on their servers and once the download is complete, they will send a copy of the file to the specific folder of your Dropbox account. Neat!

Hence there is no need to download the same file on the local computer, copy it on a removable hard drive or use Dropbox’s web interface to manually upload the file. The only thing you have to do is to grab the URL of the file and use Sidecloudload to send the file to your Dropbox account. Done !

Previously, we have discussed how to send files and attachments to your Dropbox account from email, by uploading the files as an email attachment. The downside of this procedure is that most of the web mail services imposes a limitation on the file size for email attachments. However, Sidecloudload imposes no restrictions on the file size and you can use this service to remotely download really big files directly to your Dropbox account.

Users can also choose the “Email me link” option which will email them the link of the file download, once the site has completed parsing it on their servers. hence, apart from adding files to your Dropbox account from any computer, you can also use the service as a cloud based download manager.

Google has released a new tool called Swiffy, which allows you to convert Flash objects and SWF files to it’s corresponding HTML5 version. Google understands the fact that not all mobile browsers has built in support for Adobe Flash so this tool will immensely help web developers convert SWF files to HTML 5 without having to go through manual encoding.

And the best thing regarding Swiffy is that the app is completely web based, so there is nothing to download or install. Head over to the Swiffy homepage, upload your SWF file and Google will instantly convert it into an HTML5 version, which can be downloaded on your local computer and embedded on a webpage.

Here is an example SWF file converted to it’s rich HTML5 version using Google’s Swiffy labs application. The original Flash animation is visible on the left pane while the converted HTML5 version is shown on the right. Neat!

So if you are a developer and love making Flash animations, you can avoid the labor of manually converting Flash objects to HTML5 version.  Head over to Swiffy and generate the HTML5 version of your animation, game, advertisements or other Flash object files, as easy as a mouse click.

Adobe has a similar Flash to HTML5 conversion tool called Wallaby which works pretty much the same way but there are two basic differences. First, Wallaby is not a web application and needs installation on the local computer whereas Swiffy is a web app and can be used from any modern browser. Second, Wallaby produces a more compact code which can be edited later but in case of Swiffy, the code generated cannot be edited and you have to generate the HTML5 embed code again, if you need any changes on the SWF output.

Swiffy is currently under development so it might not handle complex actionable Flash files but the tool does a nice job converting rich media advertisements to HTML5 or simple online Flash games to their HTML5 version. Check out the Swiffy gallery for some example conversions

Note: If you have a mobile version of your Flash website, you won’t be able to use Swiffy and convert your website’s mobile theme into an HTML5 version. Instead, you have to download all the SWF objects one by one, generate their individual HTML5 version and add the HTML5 embed code to the mobile theme of your website.

Once you have generated the public link, you can send this public link to anyone and they can download the entire Flickr photo set or album on their computer. It doesn’t matter whether the user has a Flickr account or not, as the link generated by Flickr And Share website is publicly accessible.

Getting started with Flickr And Share is very easy. Go to the website, sign in with your Yahoo, Facebook or Google account and authorize the application to access data from your Flickr account.

On the next page, select the Flickr photo album or photo set for whom you want to generate the downloadable link. If you have a private album which is completely hidden from the outside world, you can select it as well. The only catch here is that only one album can be selected at a time and you can’t generate a combined download link for multiple albums.
