Defragment Windows Registry to Improve Performance And Faster Restart / ShutDown

Written by Amit Banerjee on 19 Feb, 2010 Under Windows

How much time does your computer takes to start Windows? 50 seconds or 3 minutes ? As more and more programs are installed, Windows slows down considerably.

This is because once a program is installed it registers a new item in Windows registry and some programs do not remove the entries after you uninstall them. Overtime, the registry is populated which is one of the reasons of slow system start / shutdown.

Quicksys RegDefrag is a useful freeware which can defragment Windows Registry and remove unnecessary entries that have accumulated since you performed a clean system format. The software can remove missing as well as corrput registry entries which results in faster system restarts and shutdowns.

Once the app is installed, close all running programs and hit the analyze button. This would freeze the screen for a while as the registry would be analyzed. (Tip: always backup Windows registry to be safe).

After the analysis is complete, the app shows a brief report on the registry size and the difference in size after optimization.

As you can see, there are a whole lot of missing fragments and the difference after optimization is as large as 91 %. Hit the “Defragment” button and Windows registry will be optimized. You will have to restart your Computer for the changes to take effect.

If you are facing slow system restart, slower shutdowns and frequent system crashes, this tool is a must use.
