How to Enable or Disable Gmail Priority Inbox

Gmail recently rolled out a new features which allows you to sort or find important emails in Gmail using a special inbox known an “Priority Inbox“. This inbox is just a special folder in your Gmail account where you can keep those emails which needs your immediate attention.

But for many user, Priority inbox can be a distraction too. Here are some quick steps to enable or disable Priority inbox in Gmail:

How to Enable Priority Inbox in Gmail

1. Log in  to your Gmail account and click “Priority Inbox” at the top of the screen as shown below:

2. Click the “try it now” link in the pop up option and the page will refresh. Your inbox will load again and you will see the following screen:

3. To access priority inbox in Gmail, all you have to do is click the priority inbox link from the right sidebar, the link is placed just above the Inbox link as shown above.

4. To start  using the priority inbox feature, all you have to do is use the small “plus” and “minus” icons from the menu bar and the messages will be moved to the priority inbox folder. Apart from that Gmail will learn your emailing habits and automatically filter messages that are important and move them to the Priority inbox folder.

How to Disable priority Inbox in Gmail

If you do not want to use the Priority inbox feature in Gmail and want to completely deactivate it, follow the simple steps mentioned below:

1. Click “Settings” from the top right corner of the screen and switch to the “Priority Inbox” tab as shown below:

2. Select the radio button “Do not show priority inbox” at the bottom and click “Save changes”. You are done.

Thus Gmail priority inbox is permanently disabled in your inbox and you have reverted back to the normal Gmail interface.

    did you rec – “do not show” is not the same than deactivate!
    i think this is a clever way gmail reads all your mails in detail and you gave your permission to filter – but once activated there is no deactivation possible.

    also in the german version the wording says “ausblenden” which means invisible not “deaktivieren”- this just makes it not visible for you.

    google should offer an deactivate button like for google buzz. everything else is evil! evil evil!

    I activated it to give a try but i hate it to have this activated in my account. I am trying to disable it but I couldn’t. If I choose the option as you say it is still not removed. My filters are not working properly after activating this feature. Pls give us the option to permanently erase this completely instead of having them in account settings. Thank you!!

      @ram: Sorry, but I am unable to understand the exact problem which you are facing. The instructions are pretty straight forward, can you tell me the step where you are facing problem ?
