Enable and Use System UI Tuner in Android Marshmallow

It’s been a long time since Google has launched Android worldwide. Android 6 comes with some great, useful and productive new features. For instance, the DOZE mode, better volume tuner and more. Just like them, there is another new feature called System UI Tuner. It does what users actually were in need of.

What is System UI Tuner?

System UI Tuner is an experimental feature that is included in Android Marshmallow to customize the UI according to your wish. Basically, it can help you to personalize the status bar drop-down menu. It means, you can customize the menu or icon that appears when you swipe down from the status bar for two times.

What does System UI Tuner do?

As mentioned before, System UI Tuner can help you to customize the icons those appear after swiping from top from the status bar. Generally, previous Android versions come with some icons like Wi-Fi, Cast, Hotspot, Cellular Data, Location Service and many more in that menu. If you do not need something, you cannot hide that. If you want to rearrange them, you could not do that. Although, earlier Android release could not do that, but you can easily do so in Android Marshmallow.

How to enable System UI Tuner?

Although, Android Marshmallow has System UI Tuner, but you cannot get that without doing the necessary thing. That is simple and not much time consuming to get things done. As this is an experimental feature, you cannot get it like other features. You will have to enable it just like the Developer Options.

To enable System UI Tuner, at first, swipe down the status bar once. After that, you will get a Settings (gear) button. On the top of your screen.

Tap and hold the button for at least 5 seconds. After that, release it. You will be redirected to your stock Settings menu with a text like this,

Congrats! System UI tuner has been added to Settings

Following that, you will get a new menu in Settings called System UI Tuner.

Tap on that to open all the other settings related to that.

Add/Remove icon from the UI

This is very easy after enabling System UI Tuner. To do so, just tap on Status Bar and toggle the button to show/hide any icon.

Rearrange icons using System UI Tuner

To rearrange any icon of status bar, you will have to tap on Quick settings. After that, you will get a screen like this,

Now, you can place any icon at anywhere. To do so, just tap and hold the icon for a second and then, place it where you want. That’s it.
