Find High Resolution Images in Google Image Search
Google Images is one of the best places to find images, photographs or even good quality wallpapers for free. Whenever I am looking for a refreshing wallpaper or a new background, my first choice has always been Google Images.
The reason is that Google Image search provides so many options and you can completely customize the interface to filter the search results. This involves finding images that contain a specific color, filtering results according to dimensions, choosing size and type – Faces, Objects, clip art, photo, line drawing and so on.
How to Find High Resolution Images or Wallpapers with Google Image search
There are basically two tricks to find HD wallpapers or photos in Google Image search:
Using proper Keywords:
Using proper keywords in your search query can give you more relevant results. As an example, if you are looking for High resolution images of Bikes – search for Bikes wallpapers HD or something like Bikes photos HQ instead of the general “Bikes wallpapers”.
But sometimes, using the keywords may not help as there are tons of sites which use words like HD or HQ in their webpage containing the image but sadly the image isn’t high resolution at all. Since the search bots can’t read image that easily, you have to use a different technique to search high resolution images using Google Image search.
Using the Search options in the Sidebar
To locate high resolution images in Google Image search, enter your keywords and Hit Enter. You will see all the regular images in the right panel as shown below:

Click the “Larger than” option in the left sidebar and choose “4MP” option as shown below:

This will show only those pictures whose size is larger than 4 Mega pixel. You can define your preferred size using the “Exactly” option placed just underneath it, this will allow you to find images with a custom width and height. Otherwise, you can choose a different resoution which varies fro 6MP, 8MP, 10 MP and so on.
Once you have selected the option, search again and you will see only high definition images at Google Image search. Here is an example
Using a Bookmarklet
If you are a fan of Browser bookmarklets and want to frequently search for high quality images at Google Image search, try the following bookmarklet.

Unfortunately, since June 30th, 2011, Google, in its infinite wisdom, REMOVED THAT FEATURE FROM IMAGE SEARCH…
Isn’t Cloud Computing, with its total surrender of software control Great? NOT!!!
Way to go, Google!
Actually, if you click on Advanced search (under the blue search button), you can find the resolution options that used to be in the left toolbar
Sorry for the late response, but gmail had flagged ampercent’s notification email as spam…
Obviously Steve G is right, but what was aggravating was having to do this run around for such an obvious, primary search criterion, essentially reducing functionality.
I would ask Steve if he’s happy with his 0.1 megapixel camera, because that’s pretty much the size of images that turn up in results when the size parameter is ignored. In other words, pretty much useless.
But the discussion is now moot, since Google has quickly corrected this glaring mistake.
