Automatically Delete Spam Messages in Gmail and Disable the Spam Counter

Email spam is a common problem that every user has to face. You open your email account and find spam messages waiting to be deleted.  What frustrates me is to see a counter placed adjacent to the spam label and I have to manually delete the spam messages every day.

Automatically delete smap email messages in Gmail

One solution to reduce spam is to use temporary disposable email addresses for one time signups in forums or websites. You can also hide your email address from spam bots but somehow you cannot get rid of the spammers. Eventually, some of them will surely slip through and land in your spam folders. The best way to deal – delete them the moment they arrive.

Here is a really simple trick to automatically delete spam messages in Gmail using a custom filter:

1. Log in to Gmail and click Settings. Go to the Filters tab and click Create a New Filter.

2. Type is:spam in the “From:” text box and click Next step

3. Select the checkbox Delete it and hit Create filter.

You are done. Whenever you get any spam email, those messages will be deleted and the spam counter is disabled for ever. You should be very careful using this trick because if any email accidentally gets marked as spam, all similar upcoming messages will automaically get deleted.

Hence to be on the safe side, when you create the filter, choose the action as “Mark as Read” instead of “Delete it”.

Or better, use Gmail’s label hiding feature and never look back at it.

Some how I will suggest to not to do this and check your spam folder once in a week. Many times I realize many important Emails landed into Spam folder. So checking it once in a while , might be very helpful.
