GoogSystray: Monitor Google Services from Windows System Tray

Googsystray is a new software application which can be used to monitor Google services from the desktop. This includes Gmail, Google apps email, Google calendar, Google reader, Google wave and Google voice.

The advantage of desktop notifiers: Earlier we had reviewed Google.me and GMdesk – both are desktop applications to access and monitor Google services. The advantage of using the desktop notifiers is that you need not keep a browser tab open all the time. The desktop notifier runs in the background and alerts you whenever you have a new email message or a new feed item to be read. Thus you can concentrate in your work while the desktop notifier keeps an eye on all your Google services. And yes, it works with multiple Google accounts as well.

The problem with Gmdesk and Google.me is that they worked slow and opens the Google services in their own explorer windows. You may wish to use a desktop tool to monitor your Google accounts but open them in your preferred browser. The wait is over as Googsystray is here.

How to use Googsystray

Setting up the software is simple. Just download the application and install it. After that, add up all the Google accounts you have in the program preferences. This includes your Gmail account, Google apps account, Google reader, Google calendar and your Google wave accounts etc.

You can configure the application to open a new browser tab whenever you receive a new email or the like. Also supports running a specific program or a command so you can fire in a another application when you get a new email. The software works similar to Gmail desktop notifier which sends you desktop alerts of new email. Works with Gmail as well as Google apps accounts and you can also choose the time interval for checking new emails. Plays a cool “Ding” sound when you receive a new email and it also supports a hotkey which opens Gmail in a new browser tab.

Similarly, it works with Google calendar, Google wave and Google reader accounts. You receive pop up notifications of new messages and feed items as and when they appear. Clicking the links in the pop up notification window opens a new browser tab.
