How to Include any Folder in the Customize Desktop Menu

Written by Amit Banerjee on 18 Nov, 2008 Under Windows

Microsoft XP is great but it contains some ugly bitmap images as wallpapers by default. Also it has no option to permanently include folders in the Customize desktop Option. There is a Simple Registry Trick which fixes the problem.

1.Open the Registry editor by typing “regedit“( without quotations) in the Run Box from the Start Menu.

2.Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion.

3.On the right Menu select WallpaperDir.Double Click it and enter the full path of the folder containing your pictures. You can specify any folder of your choice.

edit string

4.Click Ok when finished.

Now right click any empty area of your desktop and select properties. In the desktop Tab you will see the images contained in your folder. You don’t need to browse and select images as wallpapers over and over again.

customize desktop

Reverting to Default : If you don’t like it and want the default settings back then  follow the above process and enter “%SystemRoot%WebWallpaper“(without quotations).
