Chrome, the most favorite web-browser, can be used for various purposes. Sometimes, you can use Chrome as a music player and sometimes, it can be used as a secure password generator. You can browse files, you can open any pdf files, you can open many video formats using Chrome. But have you ever thought to make your website as a standalone desktop application?
Generally, you can open separate websites in separate tabs while using Google Chrome Browser. If you force chrome to always open in single window without any other tab, then you can easily create a standalone desktop application for your website.
How To Open Website With Chrome As A Desktop Standalone Application
To create a standalone application for your website, you need a simple tweak to Chrome desktop shortcut.
At first open Chrome installation directory from your Windows PC. In general, it can be found in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application folder.
Create a shortcut of ‘Chrome’. Just right-click on ‘Chrome’ and select ‘Create Shortcut’ option.
Go to desktop and right-click on shortcut that you have just created.
Select ‘properties’ from there.
Under ‘Shortcut’ tab you can find ‘Target’ tab.
Edit it as:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe” –app=http://ampercent.com
There is no need to add ‘www’ before the domain name. I use ‘ampercent.com’ here. You may use whatever you want.
Use the shortcut to launch Chrome browser.
This will open your website in a single window all by itself.
Thus, one can create different standalone apps for different websites. The method is very simple and it does not require to enable any special chrome flags. Website’s favicon and meta description will appear in the taskbar of the application window.
