Moto G4 Plus vs. ZUK Z1; Lenovo Battle 2016 Unleashed

Marques Brownley (the famous gadget reviewer) once said in a video,

“Good phones are getting cheaper, and cheap phones are getting good.” That’s exactly what we have seen for a few years.

Xiaomi was the one who took Indian smartphone market by storm with their Mi3 mobile. Though it hid in oblivion quickly, other manufacturers got inspiration from the massive popularity of Xiaomi Mi3 and realized that sub 20k range is the perfect for the Indian market.

We have seen a lot of good phones under 20k. This time, it’s Lenovo who are all set to capture the minds of gadget freaks by two different variants. Yeah, Moto G4 and ZUK Z1!

Here, in this article, you will be reading the comparison of both the phones.

Moto G4 Plus vs. ZUK Z1

Moto G4 Plus vs. ZUK Z1

Lenovo has purchased Motorola quite a while ago. In India, the Moto series has a huge fan following as well. Let’s just see who will in Moto G4 Plus vs. ZUK Z1 war.

Build and Design

If you pick the two phones in your hand one after the other, judging the build quality becomes easier. Owing to the solid feel and sturdy build, ZUK is the topper here.

Talking about form factors, ZUK is thinner in the lot but heavy too.

The design of both phones is flawless. In case you were a Motorola user, the design may seem like a cliché. And, ZUK has no such issues being the first of its kind in India. The button and fingerprint placements are identical as well.

Winner: – ZUK Z1

Display

Both Moto Plus and ZUK Z1 sport a 5.5 inch full HD display. The panel is also same in these two mid-level beasts; that’s color IPS panel. But ZUK scores slightly higher with 16 M colors.

The pixel density is 401 in both phones leaving no worries to the user regarding screen quality.

But when it comes to screen protection, Moto G4 Plus wins with the Corning Gorilla Glass 4. No protective layer on ZUK Z1 what so ever.

Winner: – Moto G4 Plus (Gorilla Glass gets the best score)

Operating System

Moto G4 Plus is running on Android version 6.0.1, Marshmallow whereas ZUK Z1 has Android 5.1.1, Lollipop on top of Cyanogen.

If you are a stock Android fan with minimalistic UI features, you must go with Moto G4 Plus. But ZUK Z1 should be the pick for those who are keen in customizing the phone through the deepest level.

This section of the battle would have been tied. But Moto G4 beats ZUK in terms of updates. No customized Android gets updates faster than the stock version.

Winner: – Moto G4 Plus

Camera

Moto G4 Plus has a 16 MP front-facing camera and a 5 MP back. On the other hand, ZUK Z1 has got a 13 MP front and 8 MP back.

In outdoors with natural lighting conditions, both the phones rendered good quality images. But moving towards artificial lighting revealed the slight edge of G4 Plus’s camera.

But ZUK is not far behind either. The focusing speed and camera app is the best in comparison with Moto G4 Plus. And, ZUK has optical image stabilization which its counterpart doesn’t have.

Winner: – Tie

Performance

The Moto smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor while Z1 has 801 quad core one. Looking at the history of Snapdragon and core numbers, you may underrate 801 processor. Yeah, 617 is the best in papers.

ZUK has only one variant with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. And, Moto G4 Plus has three versions with 2,3 GB RAM and 16,32 GB internal storage.

{This comparison involves the higher version}.

But in daily usage scenarios, both of them performed very well without any stutter. So, I think both the phones deserve the applause.

The gaming performance is the best in Moto G4 with its Adreno 405 GPU. ZUK is not completely beaten, but Adreno 330 is not the best when it comes to graphic intensive gaming.

The surprising fact is Moto G4 heats up above 45 degree Celsius during the game sessions. And, ZUK does get warm but not hot.

Winner: – Tie {Considering the heating issue}

Battery

The history was that good phones hadn’t had a good battery. But it is being rewritten by new models.

Moto G4 Plus has a 3000 mAh non-removable Lithium-ion battery and ZUK Z1 has a 4100 mAh non-removable Lithium- Polymer one.

Both in papers and real life scenario, ZUK is the winner with a screen-on time (in my case) between 5:30 and 6:30 hours. Moto returned one-hour less.

Winner: – ZUK Z1

Final Verdict

I can’t suggest you one among these mid-range killer phones. You need to choose one according to your needs.

Both the phones support dual-SIMs. But the memory card slot is available only on Moto G4 Plus, which in term is compensated by the whopping 64 GB in-built storage.

Moto G4 Plus and ZUK Z1 are best-buy with their prices of 14999 and 13499 INR respectively.
