Mute the Speakers with a Hotkey in a Non Multimedia Keyboard

You can quickly mute your Computer’s speakers using a multimedia keyboard by pressing the multimedia button. But what if you have a non multimedia keyboard ? This free script will let you mute your speakers using the Caps Lock key on a non-multimedia keyboard.

Tip: You can also use Automute – a freeware utility to mute the computer while Windows logs in from hibernation or suspended modes.

1. At first download the Auto hotkey script and install it.

2. Open Notepad and paste the following

CapsLock:: SoundSet, +1, , mute

3. Save the file as “mute.ahk” (without quotes). While saving, make sure to save it as “All files” and not as a text document.

4. Open the file with the Autohotkey program and sit back. You will notice a new icon in your system tray as shown below:

    This is a magical utility. The thing that dreams are made of. Now I can play my PC games at a cousin’s place where the volume control is *behind* the ill-designed speakers-system’s sub-woofer that is kept at the bottom of that ubiquitous another-poorly-designed Comutarr Table, visible all over India!

    Thanks, mate!
