10 steps to patch up your uxtheme.dll file in XP to get a makeover done
Planning for a makeover of your Windows XP visual interface ? That is a piece of cake. Previous to do all such changes do this simple tweak.Else you can only use signed themes created by Microsoft.
WARNING: Replacing system files may lead to undesired results in performance. It is suggested to create a restore point before you do any such changes. You can revert back to earlier settings in case you experience any difficulty. This ensures safety.
Now that you have done the needful & came this far lets follow the steps to get our job done.
- Find out which Service Pack Version you are using.( Press WINDOWS Key + Pause/Break Key )
- In case you have Service Pack 1 – Download this.
In case you have Service Pack 2 – Download this. - Unzip the files to a location of your choice.
- Now download the Replacer. This will help you replace the system files & is supposed to be completely safe. This also backs up the replaced file in case you need it again.
- Unzip the Replacer & read the “readme” to get a clear idea. Get ready to patch up your uxtheme.dll file.
- Double-click the file replacer.cmd.
- Now drag & drop the uxtheme.dll file (to be found at C:\WINDOWS\system32\uxtheme.dll ) into the window as it asks you to do so. Now press Enter.
- Now the replacer window will ask for the file to replace. Drag & drop the uxtheme.dll file ( that you downloaded earlier ) into the replacer window.
- Now the replacer will ask for confirmation of the file replacement. Now if you really want to experience the change press enter to confirm or just exit the process by closing the window.
- After replacer replaces the files, restart your computer.
