Recover Google account password via SMS if you Lose it

Suppose you forget your Google account password and can not login to your account. You  have been stupid and havent added a secondary email address .Now  how are you going to  recover your google account password  ?

If you have registered your phone number with your google account you can still recover your password via an sms message. This article describes how you can recover your google account password using a text message.

Add your phone number in your google account

The first step involves adding your phone number in your google account. Here are the steps to be  followed :

1.Log in to your google accounts and visit the  manage account page.After that Click “change password recovery options”.

2.  You will be prompted to log in again for security reasons. After you log  in just add your phone number in the SMS field “Receive a text message with a password-reset code on your mobile phone”.

After you have added your phone number save the options. Also make sure you have added a secondary email address with your existing google account because in case you change your mobile number later on you may need the secondary email address to reset  and retrieve your password.

Test your Google account

After you have added your phone number with your google account you should test its functionality at least once. Here is how you can test your google account password recovery process via Sms :

1.On the Google account login page  click ”  I can’t access my account” and visit the password recovery page.

2. Enter your google account ID and click submit.

3. As soon as you click the submit button you would receive a text message on your Mobile phone with a 7 digit code. Also a password reset email will be sent to your secondary email address.

4.You can now reset your password in three ways :By using the secondary email address,Using the SMS recovery code or by answering the security question.We will see how you can reset your password using the Sms message.

5. While on the password recovery page click the Link to reset your password via Sms and you will be greeted with the following screen .

6.Enter the recovery code that you received and click on “Submit recovery code”.

Bingo ! You will be asked to enter your new password and reset your old google account password.

The above process of password recovery can be risky if someone else has access to your mobile phone. So be very sure and use this option very carefully.In my opinion adding a secondary email address  is the safest option to recover your lost password. What do you think ?
