If you are running a genuine licensed copy of Windows7 on your pc, you should protect it from being stolen.
There are so many situations when other users might try to crack your Windows7 license key. Whether you are sharing your computer with multiple users or leaving your laptop at a friend’s house, there are numerous occasions when someone might steal the Windows7 product key from your operating system.
Consider a situation – your laptop’s DVD drive is not working properly and you went to a service center for repair work. The shop technician asked you to leave the laptop at his custody till he replaces your DVD drive, he asked you to come back after 3 hours or so.

To avoid theft of your Windows7 license key you should completely remove the Windows7 activation key from registry, before sharing your computer with anyone else. You don’t need to download any software programs to achieve this, just follow these simple steps:
Note: Before moving on to the steps, it’s advised to take a backup the current state of your Windows registry or backup the product keys and store them on a safe location.
1. Type “cmd” in Windows7 search box, right click the command prompt icon and choose “Run as administrator”
2. In the command prompt window, type this command: slmgr -cpkey
3. Hit enter and wait for sometime till you see the following message prompt:
Product key from registry cleared successfully.
All done, the original product key is removed from Windows registry and now no one else can extract or steal it.
When you return home, you can manually type the license key from control panel and activate Genuine windows as usual.
