Schedule Gmail Messages From Your Mobile Using Boomerang Mobile App For Android, iOS

One of the problems with email messages is that they never stop coming.

Overtime, your Gmail inbox gets heavy with dozens of messages and you keep reminding yourself that you have to send a reminder email to someone, reply to a previous message thread, follow up on an earlier email or send a quotation to your client. This situation gets critical when you have to remember the exact date and time when an email needs to be sent. Personally, I use mobile alerts for remembering the order of emails I have to sent but people who work in corporate offices need a really smart way to schedule Gmail messages from anywhere, not just desktop computers.

Now there are quite a good number of browser plugins and web applications that lets you schedule emails in Gmail or send an email message at a future date. This is of course extremely useful when you want to clear your to do list which has already accumulated two dozen pending follow ups and previous email conversations. Who has the time and everyfy to remember reminders, followups and routine emails on a daily basis?

Schedule Gmail Messages From Android, iPhone Or Any Mobile Device

What if you could schedule email messages right from your phone, without having to use a desktop computer or the email client of your office? What if you could schedule future messages right from your Android or iPhone so that you never have to remember followups and reminders that need a response from your side?

Enter Boomerang for Mobile – an insanely useful mobile app for sending scheduled messages from your Gmail and Google Apps account. Go to m.boomeranggmail.com, sign in with your Gmail account and you are all set to schedule messages at a future date, right from your mobile.

Boomerang for Gmail is separately available as a browser plugin but users who want to use it from mobile can use their mobile web app from the mobile version of Boomerang. There is no native iPhone or Android app, so you will have to use the mobile version of Boomerang for scheduling email messages in your Gmail account.

Once you are signed into Boomerang for mobile, go to the the send later section, compose your message and hit the “Schedule” button. Boomerang’s mobile web app will let you pick a date and time for the message and it will be scheduled right there. No need to use browser plugin or third party websites for scheduling messages from your Gmail email address.

All your scheduled messages will be stored in the “scheduled messages” section so you can quickly figure out your sending queue and find the messages which you have scheduled. This send later feature is a godsend for busy people who don’t have time managing through tons of sent email every other day.

None of Gmail’s native mobile app for Android or iPhone has this feature and users who want to bulk schedule future messages have to use the browser plugin available for Firefox and Google Chrome.

There is another feature of Boomerang’s mobile app which is worth taking a look.

Permanently Archive Specific Messages Received Before A Custom Date

You can mute specific messages and prevent them from appearing in your inbox before a particular date and time. This is really useful when you want to permanently archive a conversation and don’t want to see it popping into your inbox, whenever someone sends in a new reply. This is similar to Gmail’s Mute this feature which is not available for Android and iPhone yet.

When you should use the permanent archive feature? It really dpends on your requirements but I will share a common example here.

I regularly get email newsletters and other promotional stuff delivered to my email inbox. Some of these messages are time critical in nature so I read them as soon as possible and either delete them or take the required action. But most of them are not time critical in nature and I have a couple of weeks to go before some action needs to be taken.

In such cases, I do a “Permanent archive” and tell Gmail to ignore future messages in this conversation up to this date. If a message arrives in the same thread before my specified date, I never see the message in the first place. The message arrives and Boomerang for Gmail marks it read, automatically.

However, if any new reply is received after my specified date, the message lands in the inbox as it normally should. This helps me keep my Gmail Inbox clean from stuff that can wait and lets me focus my attention on things that are really urgent at this moment.

Boomerang Mobile is included in the pro version of Boomerang. After the trial ends, you can buy a subscription to continue using Boomerang Mobile. If you choose to not subscribe,   your account will automatically convert to the free basic plan. The Basic plan allows you to schedule a limited number of messages each month, which is fine considering the fact that you won’t be scheduling half dozen messages every other day. Or would you?

Overall, this little guy just won my heart. Job well done!
