Disable “This Device Can Perform Faster” Notification in USB Drives
When you plug in a USB drive in Windows, you might have seen a balloon tooltip popping in from the system tray that says – This device can perform faster if you connect it to a high speed USB port.
This notification works with USB thumb drives or any other device e.g digital camera, mp3 player or an iPod.
If you want to permanently disable showing the this device can perform faster notification, follow these simple steps:
1. When you see the balloon tooltip, click it and this will open a new window, as shown below:
2. Windows XP users need to select the checkbox “Don’t tell me about USB errors” and hit OK. This will completely disable further notifications of USB port errors.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the procedure is exactly the opposite. You will see the following window on clicking the baloon:
Just deselect the checkbox that says “Tell me if my device can perform faster” and hit “Close”. You are done !
The next time you plug in a removable drive, windows will not check whether the performance of the USB port can be icreased or not and you will not see the balloon tip again.
