WebReader is an Adobe Air based desktop utility which allows users to read their Google Readers subscribed feeds on their desktop. WebReader has a neat and clean interface which allows the reading experience as close to Google Reader as it can get.

WebReader provides a pane navigation view with several options for categorizing your reading material. Material can be prioritized and added to the Starred Items list if the reader deems it important. Also, based on the preferences set by the user, articles are also categorized in the Recommended list and the normal Unread list is also available for the articles from the feed which you haven’t read as yet. WebReader allows users to search their feeds and find the articles or content which they need. Also there is a zoom option available to aid in the viewing navigation.

Also, WebReader provides users the ability to share the material they read or follow via social networks to their peers and friends. WebReader comes with full support for Facebook and Twitter and all articles can be shared to these social networks with a single click.

Being an Adobe AIR app, GMDesk needs Adobe AIR installed on your PC. If you have that installed already, ignore Step #1 or else start from the beginning.

Download & Configure GMDesk

Step #1 : Go to Adobe AIR download page & download it. Install the pack thereafter.

Step #2 : Download the latest version of GMDesk and install it. After a successful install start the app.

Step #3 : As the app loads, you have to enter your required username and password for the Google Account.

NOTE : You could also access the Google Apps services using GMDesk. To do this you have to configure the preferences. Go to GMDesk > Preferences. Refer the screenshot below.

Step #4 : After you have successfully logged in, browse through the services using the Window Menu bar item named Google applications. Or you can use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + 1/2/3/4/5(for Windows & Linux) and Cmd+Tab(for Mac) to surf between the services.

Drawbacks of GMDesk

1. GMDesk is a bit heavy on your RAM usage. As soon as you start, it gasps for 60-100Mb RAM.

I Just love The Interface and Simplicity of the App that neatly presents your analytics data .This Solves the problem of logging in to Your analytics account every Now and then or Keeping it open In a New Tab.Here is what Polaris has to offer :

The Dashboard In Polaris

The dashboard Shows you Number of Visits ,Bounce rate The Number Of page views ,Percentage of New Visitors and The average time on site.In Fact it is Quite the same when you login to Your Google analytics account In a Browser.

See the Timeline and Select Date Ranges

Using the Timeline You can Select the date ranges and View your Reports.The interface Looks stunning. The navigation is pretty smooth and is very easy to use

Visitor Over View and Map Overlay

Though The map Size is Small and You Do not have the Advanced Analytics Interface, Yet  you can Quickly See Where your visitors are coming from.Zoom in the Map and Drag and Drop the Map Where you want.

The Visitor overview Gives You the details of How many visits. occurred within a Specific date range.Concise data to quickly See through.Further analysis On that Data is although Not available But the developer may consider adding it In the Upcoming Versions.

Underneath The Traffic Sources You can See Direct Traffic,Traffic from Search Engines and traffic generated from Referring Sites. in depth Information is Not available but Still It solves the problem.

You can further Expand your reports for each of the referrers. For example : You can see How many visits you got on a particular Day From Stumbleupon or twitter etc. Important Metrics like Bounce rate and pages/Visit are also Included.

Keywords and Top content

You can See the Top performing Keywords in your Site for a Specific time Interval that  you set Through the timeline. It shows you the Number of Visits ,pages/visit and the bounce rate for the Keyword In the Time Interval that You select.

Download Polaris. You Should have Adobe Air installed on your system to Run Polaris.

Polaris is free for single profile/single website usage, if you have more than one profiles or websites, you will need to spend $15 per year.

Final Note

All In all a Beautiful AIR App for Bloggers and Webmasters and I have been looking for Something Like this For quite some time .However If you need Deeper analysis of your Data and Want to customize Advanced Segments then you Need to login to your analytics account because the app is Not Ready to support all the features yet. Expect Some More products and Developments.
