With the sync feature working, you can quickly convert torrent downloads to a format that is best supported by the device where the file will be used. Let’s take an example to understand this scenario.

Let’s say you are downloading a really large video file in MP4 format but you will play the video file on your mobile device, which supports only 3GP videos. You don’t know whether the target video will be in Mp4 or 3GP format because the torrent file is still downloading and will take some time to complete. With the new uTorrent 3.1 Alpha, you can convert a file for a particular external device, right from uTorrent itself. There is no need to use a separate file conversion software. Neat!

From the screenshot above, you can see that my uTorrent 3.1 client has automatically recognized my Android handset and the external hard drive plugged into my laptop. Now there are two advantages of uTorrent 3.1 over earlier versions of uTorrent.

First, I can drag and drop the torrent downloads right into the external storage device, without having to change the download location. There is no need to cancel the download progress, as uTorrent will automatically sync the download to your external storage device, which includes external hard drives, Android, iPhone, iPad, PS3 and XBOX.

This is very useful when your computer is running on low disk space and you want to download the torrent on an external storage device, without having to start it all over again.

All in all, external device integration in uTorrent was a much needed feature because it makes file sync and copying to external devices a breeze. On top of that, you can even move the download progress to an external device, which is a lifesaver on so many occasions. If you are a die hard uTorrent user, give this a spin!

Related: How to create your own torrent file and seed it

Quickly Copy uTorrent Downloads To External Devices – Android, USB, iOS, PS3 And XBox originally published on Ampercent

uTorrent Remote Lets You Start, Stop Or Monitor Torrent Downloads From Android

Clips

Android

Torrent

Do you download a lot of files using Torrent or even create your own torrent files, seed them and share with friends and family members ? Do you hate monitoring torrent downloads from desktop and want an easier way to start, stop or pause torrent downloads from your Android device ?

If the answer to any of these questions is a “Yes”, here is something very interesting.

Bittorrent has recently released an official app for uTorrent remote application. The Android app is pretty useful when you are on the go and want to pause or restart a torrent download which is running in one of your desktop computers (e.g Windows, Linux or MAC).

With the official Bittorrent remote app for Android, you can remotely start torrent downloads from your mobile device or can stop ongoing downloads at your desktop computer, anytime from the mobile device. Another advantage of using this Android Bittorrent app is that you can search for torrents on the web and add them to your desktop client seamlessly. There is no need to bookmark the location of the torrent, go home, open the link, download the torrent and mount it on the desktop torrent client (Currently, the app works with Android 2.1 or above).

What I really liked above the application is the ability to add RSS feeds for torrents and download selected files from the RSS feed to your desktop computer. So it doesn’t matter where you are, as long as as you have that Android device and your desktop computer is running – you can add Torrents, RSS feeds from any website and remotely start a torrent download from Android.

Here are some screen shots of the Android App for uTorrent:

As you can see, the app shows the current status of the torrent that is being downloaded, the upload speed, number of seeds and peers and the total file size that has been downloaded to your computer. Apart from monitoring, resuming, pausing and starting torrent downloads from your home computer, you can also copy completed downloads to your Android device. This is really a great addition which works only when you have uTorrent Version 3.0 running on the desktop computer at home or office.

Install uTorrent Android App

Related: Turn any file download into a Torrent

uTorrent Remote Lets You Start, Stop Or Monitor Torrent Downloads From Android originally published on Ampercent

Turn Any File Download Into a Torrent With BurnBit

Internet

Feature

Howto

Torrent

Web Tools

Burnbit is a unique service which can be used to tun any file into a torrent download. Let’s take an example.

Say you are downloading a large movie file via a direct download and using your browser and not a download manager. Suddenly the power goes down or your internet connection freezes in the middle or something else happens.Try to resume the downloads and you receive an error message which says

”The file can not be downloaded. Check the download location”.

Then you have to start the download all over from scratch, which is very frustrating.

But with torrents, you can easily resume the file downloads where you left and if you want to share large files with your friends – you can create a torrent, seed it and let other users download your file.

Burnbit is a new service which will let you turn any file download into a torrent and then you can use Bittorrent or your preferred torrent client to download any file.

To convert any file download into a torrent, simply head over to the site and enter the full URL of the download. Then hit “Burn” and the service will create a torrent file which you can download immediately for Free or share with your friends.

The torrent page will also show relevant data e.g no of seeds and leeches, MD5 hash and the file size.

I tried the service with some files hosted on my server and it worked like a charm. Please note that small file downloads are not supported yet and so is downloads over https.

All files added to the Burnbit service are public by default so you won’t be able to share files privately with chosen friends or contacts.

Turn Any File Download Into a Torrent With BurnBit originally published on Ampercent

How to Create Your Own Torrents And Share Large Files With Anyone

Software

Featured

How to

Torrent

This tutorial shows you how you can create your own torrent files and upload them in a free server so that your friends can download the files using a bittorrent client.

How to Create Your Own Torrents And Share Large Files With Anyone originally published on Ampercent

Even kids know how to download torrents using popular torrent clients like Bittorrent or utorrent but not many people use torrent for sharing large files with their friends and family members.

Some people think that torrents are an illegal way to download files from the internet while some think that not everybody has the legal rights to create their own torrent files. Before getting on to the procedure to create torrents, please note that creating and sharing torrent is fair unless you are distributing copyrighted material or files which you do not own.

How to Create a Torrent and Let Others Users Download Your Files

Turning your files into torrents can be very useful when you can’t find the download link of a really large file on the internet. Say you have tons of photos stored in your computer and you want to send all of them to a friend without using any file sharing service. Just put all the photos in a folder, create the torrent of that folder, seed it and pass the link of the torrent file.

Torrents can also be useful when you want to backup a large amount of data and do not have an external hard disk. Without much ado, here are the steps to create torrents:

1. To create your own torrents, you will have to download and install a torrent client. Some of the very popular ones are Bittorrent and utorrent which are available for free. For this tutorial I am going to use utorrent (read mutorrent).

2. If you are not sure about the bandwidth and upload speed of your internet connection, click “Run Tests” and optimize the settings for the best configuration
( for faster uploads and downloads ).

Run Torrent Tests on Bandwidth and Upload Speed

3. Click the small magic wand icon or choose “Create a New torrent” from the file menu.

Create a New Torrent from your computer in utorrent

4. This will open a new window where you can specify a list of files or folders which will be transmitted to a torrent file ( this is called seeding).

Choose FIles and Folders For Seeding

If you have multiple files to upload, put all of them in a single folder and select the folder as your source directory.

5. Under “Torrent Properties”, you have to enter a tracking URL so that other users or your friends can locate and download your files. You can use free trackers like the open Bittorrent tracker or the popular Piratebay tracker in the “Torrent properties” window.

Here are the URL’s:

http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce

http://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announce

Create and Seed Torrents

Then click the checkbox “Start seeding” and hit “Create and Save as”. This will allow you to save the torrent file anywhere in your computer which you will have to upload to a server so that other users can download it and add in their bittorrent clients.

6. Wait for some time until the files or directories are “seeded”. Once the seeding procedure is complete, you shall see the files seeding in the torrent window as shown below:

Seeding a Torrent to the tracking sites

7. Once the torrent has finished seeding you have to upload the file to a torrent site. One of the free ways to do this is Fenopy.com, register for an account and use the upload button to upload your torrent file for free.

Upload Torrent Files

8. Once the upload is complete, the site will give you a URL which you can copy or bookmark, because this is the URL of the file you have to remember.

Host Your Torrents

Once you get the link of your torrent file, you can simply pass it on to your friends so that they can download it and add to their torrent clients and download your files.

Also read: How to create RSS feeds of torrent links and download them remotely

How to Create Your Own Torrents And Share Large Files With Anyone originally published on Ampercent

How to Create RSS Feeds of Torrent Links and Download Them Remotely

Software

Feature

How to

Torrent

Let’s say you are browsing the web on a public computer and spotted a list of torrent files in a torrent search engine. The problem comes when the computer you are using does not have any torrent client or you do not have the time to download them because of large file size. In such situations, Reactorfeed might help.

Reactorfeed lets you add a list of torrent links to create a custom RSS feed. When the feed is created, you can simply mount that feed url in any torrent client and resume the download.

Download Torrents Remotely With a Torrent client and Reactor Feed

Suppose you have your home computer running and want to download a list of torrent files to your home computer remotely. Here is a step by step guide to achieve the same

1. Go to Reactor feed and add the links of all the torrent files that you want to download. Copy the URL of the feed.

2. You have to configure the torrent client used in your home computer to download files from the above feed URL. To do that, open your torrent client and add the RSS feed that you obtained in step 1. Make sure to select “Automatically download all items published in feed”

3. Now whenever you want to download a torrent file in your home computer, simply add the torrent link in the Rss feed that you created in step 1. The home computer running the torrent client will periodically check for newer links in the RSS feed and if found, the download will start on its own.

Tip: Download torrents in USB using a portable torrent client.

You can make the RSS feed public which will allow your friends to download the same torrents at the same time from different computers.
