There are so many Google Chrome extensions, userscripts and Firefox adds-ons available for downloading YouTube videos but sadly, none of them can be installed on your Android device.

Hence, Android users are always on the lookout for a free app that would let them download YouTube videos in a preferred format or download only the audio of a YouTube video as an MP3 file.

Here are two easy ways to download YouTube videos on your Android phone, without having to use a computer:

WonTube: The Best YouTube Client For Android That Supports Free Video Downloads

If you need a single app that can act as a video browsing client and a download manager for YouTube videos, try Wontube’s free YouTube downloader.

When you start the app, you will be redirected to the lightweight mobile version of the YouTube website. The home screen lists a queue of currently popular videos and featured YouTube videos for today. You can also sign in to your Google or YouTube account and watch a customized stream of video activity that includes subscriptions, favorites, artists and so forth. Pretty sleek and works really fast!

When you want to download or play a YouTube video, simply hit the “Play” button on the video player and the app will show you two options – play/download. Hit the “Download” button and the video will be added to the download queue of Wontube. Works like a charm!

There are advanced filters to sort videos by today, this week, this month or anytime. You can also sort search results into “channels only” or choose an entire playlist. While you are watching a YouTube playlist from your Android, hit the “Download” button on the first video of the playlist and continue watching the playlist on Wontube’s video player. Unfortunately, there is no way to download the entire YouTube playlist on your Android; you have to hit the “Download” button on each individual video and download it separately.

The app houses a download manager which can be used to pause a download or cancel it completely. All the videos are downloaded in standard MP4 format, so you have the highest quality preserved and less space consumed.

This app is completely free, absolutely no strings attached.

Tubemate: Download YouTube Videos In A Preferred Screen Resolution

Not all Android phones and tablets have the same screen resolution. Some phones are small, some are quite big while some have extra large screens. On rare occasions, you might encounter errors while trying to play an FLV or MP4 video file :”This format is not supported / This screen resolution is not supported”.

Hence, it becomes really important to download YouTube videos in a resolution that is supported on your phone or tablet. Tubemate is another third party Android app (not available in the market) which can be used to download YouTube videos in a preferred screen resolution or format.

Tubemate works the same way as WonTube does, but there are a couple of more features which makes this app my personal favorite.

You can choose the fast download mode from app preferences and the app will use multiple connections for speeding up the file download process.

You can toggle between the mobile and desktop version of YouTube website.

There is an option to download YouTube video as MP3 audio file, so you can browse through random YouTube videos and download an MP3 copy from the app itself.

Supported resolutions: 320X240, 640 X360, 1280 X 720 (high end devices), 1080 p full hd, 1920 X 1080 full HD (for tablets).

Unlike Wontube, Tubemate is ad supported and available as a free download from the author’s website.

How To Download YouTube Videos On Your Android Phone Or Tablet Device originally published on Ampercent

YouTube Adds Support For Resumable Video Uploads

Internet

Feature

Youtube

If your internet connection is slow and drops frequently, you might have noticed that uploading a video at YouTube gets truncated, when your connection drops. Lets say you are uploading a video of length 10 minutes but after a while, you find that the upload got stuck in the middle. One of the major reasons of failed video uploads at YouTube is because of a really sluggish internet connection which is terribly slow or drops and reconnects every other minute.

The problem here is that you have to upload the video all over again and there is no guarantee that the upload will complete this time. When your video is being uploaded, any disturbance on your internet connection would hang the video upload process in the middle. Power failure on your laptop is another situation when the video you are uploading ceases.

Thankfully, the YouTube team has pushed a minor update to its video uploader which now supports resumable video uploads of up to 15 minutes in length.

Starting today, you can resume an incomplete video upload at your YouTube channel in Firefox 4 or higher, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. The upload progress will jump back to the point it was interrupted so you can upload the same video in multiple batches. This is a really great news for users who upload videos from open Wi-Fi access points or from connections that are terribly slow in nature.

Internet Explorer users will need Silverlight for the resumable video uploads to work while Google Chrome and Firefox users can enjoy this feature in the most recent version of the respective browsers. The following screencast shows how interrupted or partial video uploads on YouTube can be resumed, provided you don’t clear your browser cookies:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfjwlVt50bU

Note: If your browser’s privacy settings are set to automatically clear all cookies or cache on exit, the resume video upload feature might not work. No plugins, extensions or additional settings are required to enable resumable uploads feature on YouTube, as this update works out of the box.

Tip: Replace the background audio of a YouTube video without downloading it

YouTube Adds Support For Resumable Video Uploads originally published on Ampercent

How To Showcase Any Video On Your YouTube Channel

Internet

Feature

Tricks and Tutorials

Youtube

Consider this. You love to do video screencasts about your product or blog and have a very active YouTube channel. In addition to your own videos, you want to showcase videos made by other people on your YouTube channel in the sidebar, so that your channel subscribers are exposed to more useful content and interesting videos from your industry.

Unfortunately, YouTube has no support for adding external or internal links to your channel module. To make it clear, there is no way to add an HTML widget on your YouTube channel so that you can manually list links, blog posts or maybe other similar videos uploaded by other YouTube users.

If you want to make your YouTube channel more interesting and engaging, consider adding videos from other channels on your YouTube channel. This will engage your existing subscribers because you are helping them discover interesting content and videos that they already enjoy. Another advantage here is that you don’t have to create the same video tutorial yourself, if it has been already created by another YouTube user. You can simply add a link of any video on your YouTube channel and link to that video from your existing video using YouTube annotations.

There are two ways to do it – use the favorites and playlists feature on your YouTube channel and show any video on your channel as long as it is not unlisted.

Use YouTube Favorites To Showcase Anyone’s Video On Your YouTube Channel

1. Login to your YouTube account, click “Settings” and go to your account privacy section. Scroll down and select “Favorites” under profile and activity settings and click “save changes”.

Here, you are changing your YouTube favorites to public so that anyone can see those videos on your YouTube channel, homepage and linked sites. If you have earlier bookmarked some private videos on YouTube and don’t want to share them on your channel, it is recommended to first remove them from your favorites and then change your YouTube account privacy settings to “Public”.

2. Next, go to your channel and switch to the “videos and playlists” tab. Here, select the “my favorites” and “playlists” option under “which content you want to display to your channel subscribers”

If you have created multiple playlists but want to show only selected playlists on your YouTube channel, select the desired ones from the playlist selection pane. Should you want to show an existing playlist of another user on your YouTube channel, make a copy first.

3. Done!

Now browse to your YouTube channel and you should see two new tabs have been added. The first one will be favorites while the second one will be playlists.

Also read: YouTube video seo tips

Here are some tips you should know, if you are planning to show videos from other users and channels on your YouTube account:

1. Add interesting videos that engage your subscribers: Don’t add anything that is completely bizarre and irrelevant to the content and videos uploaded by you. Why?

Because when you start adding random stuff on your channel, you will start losing credibility and trust from your subscribers. It is really important to do one thing well, rather than doing multiple things badly.

2. Add short videos with strong focus: Nobody loves boring long videos that are 15 minutes in length. Add short and interesting videos which you enjoy and think would serve value to your subscribers or readers.

3. Group similar videos using playlists: Web users have a very short attention span so save their time and group all the PowerPoint presentations as one playlist. Similarly, it’s a good idea to group all the videos that are related to Microsoft Excel as another playlist.

This will make life easy for your readers and channel subscribers, as they will be able to download all the videos of a YouTube playlist for offline viewing.

4. Say no to promotional spam and friend requests: When your channel gets a good number of subscribers and viewership, you will get tons of friend requests on YouTube that are nothing but spam. People will start sharing random videos with you and they will send you a private message asking you to add their video to your channel and playlists

Of course, you should not respond to these requests as this will make your channel another super market where everything is available without any focus as such. You might want to read our earlier tutorial on allowing multiple people to upload videos to your YouTube channel

How To Showcase Any Video On Your YouTube Channel originally published on Ampercent

How Multiple People Can Collaborate On A Single YouTube Channel

Internet

Feature

How to

Tricks and Tutorials

Youtube

You can let anyone upload videos to your YouTube account or channel by sharing the mobile upload email address with them. Anyone can upload videos to your YouTube channel by attaching the video clip to an email message and sending it over to that secret email address, associated with your YouTube account.

How Multiple People Can Collaborate On A Single YouTube Channel originally published on Ampercent

Unlike Google Docs, YouTube does not support collaborative uploads by multiple people to a single YouTube channel.

There is no way more than one person or video collaborators can upload videos to the same YouTube account or channel, without knowing the login credentials of the YouTube account in question.

So how do you allow others to upload videos to your YouTube account without sharing your YouTube username and password. One example case is when your website has multiple writers and some of the posts require them to create video screencasts for your website.

One workaround here is to use a file sharing service like Dropbox. Simply ask your video collaborators to upload the video to their Dropbox account and forward you the public link. Next, download the video file on your computer and upload it back to your YouTube channel. Another workaround might be to set up a public Dropbox portal and ask the contributors to upload the video clip directly to your Dropbox account.

Sounds cool but the disadvantage here is that you have to do this manually over and over again. You have to download that big file on your computer and re-upload it on YouTube which might consume a lot of time. And when you are out on a vacation or not online, there is no way the videos can be uploaded to your YouTube channel.

A Better Way to Let Other People Upload Videos To Your YouTube Channel

Not many people are aware of YouTube’s mobile upload feature which can be a lifesaver for video bloggers and writers who are contributing at one place or want to upload videos to the same YouTube channel, without knowing the account credentials.

Ask your YouTube channel owner to login to his account, go to “Settings” and switch to the “Mobile setup” tab. YouTube will provide a secret mobile upload email address, as shown below:

This is a unique email address which identifies only this YouTube channel. Copy this email address and save it as a contact on your email contact book.

Now comes the real fun. When you want to upload videos to this YouTube channel, all you have to do is compose a new email message and attach the video file as a mail attachment. When you are done attaching the video, enter a relevant subject line to the email message. This subject line will act as the Title of the video whereas the body of the message will act as description.

When you are done composing the message, hit the “Send” button and it’s done. Your attached video will be uploaded to the YouTube channel which is associated with this secret email address.

Congratulations, you have just uploaded a video to a YouTube channel which you don’t own and the best thing here is that the username or password is not shared at all. The only catch here is that the video file size should not exceed 25 MB, because Gmail has a limitation of the maximum attachment size

Tip: If the video file size is slightly greater than 25 MB, you can use Windows Movie maker to compress the video file and lower it’s file size.

Also read: Upload longer videos to YouTube that are more than 15 minutes in length

How Multiple People Can Collaborate On A Single YouTube Channel originally published on Ampercent

YouTube Launches Social Pages For Websites, And Here Is Your Guide For Optimizing Video Content For Search Engines

Blogging

Featured

SEO

Youtube

Here are some tips on doing search engine optimization for online videos and how you can ensure that search engines and video syndicating websites can find embedded videos on your blog

YouTube Launches Social Pages For Websites, And Here Is Your Guide For Optimizing Video Content For Search Engines originally published on Ampercent

YouTube has again added another major upgrade – introducing “As seen on” pages which contains a summary of videos embedded by a particular website or blog. (see example)

The largest video sharing site has been busy pushing updates one after another. The other day they introduced a new way to embed YouTube videos without the logo, while we have already discussed how YouTube plans to use it’s artist page to organize music videos from a particular singer or band.

But unlike these updates and feature enhancements, the most recent one is superbly beneficial for blogs and websites who have a lot of embedded video content.

YouTube’s “As Seen On” Page For A Website – Find All Videos Embedded Within A Site

YouTube is currently crawling videos from blogs, websites, forums and other online sources who have embedded online videos on their sites. If YouTube finds useful content on your website where a video is embedded, your website will have a special “As seen on YouTube” page. The videos will be listed in the order YouTube bots discover them and your blog post will also be featured on YouTube.

Here is how the social blog page of this site looks on YouTube:

This is indeed a nice way to earn free authority backlinks to your website and promote your content on other platforms. Since the YouTube social page for your website is publicly accessible and not stored behind a login, the search bots will easily crawl it which means you will enjoy some extra SEO benefits.

The Takeaway lesson: Embed videos on your blog posts, whenever necessary, possible and meaningful.

On YouTube’s social page for a website, two options are provided.

You can either hit the “Play All” button to see all the popular videos embedded on a website, or click the “Add to Playlist” button and add selected videos to one of your playlists. This is a nice way to discover video content from popular tech and news sites who produce a lot of content on a regular basis. If in case you have missed some earlier video screencasts produced on a particular website, you can head straight to the website’s social page on YouTube and find that specific video you are looking for.

The icing on the cake is done on the actual video page which will contain a link to your social page, so other visitors who are watching that same video on YouTube can find more videos from your site. Here is an example I found:

Some Tips For Video SEO: Optimizing Your Site For Video Search Results

Here are some tips on doing search engine optimization for online videos and how you can ensure that search engines and video syndicating websites can find embedded videos on your blog:

1. Create a video sitemap for your website or blog (see example). WordPress blogs can make use of this excellent video sitemap WordPress plugin. (read: different ways to create XML sitemaps)

2. List all the videos on this sitemap.xml file and make sure that each entry has a custom title and description, apart from the video content that is present on your website.

3. Have a lot of textual content on the page where the video is embedded. The search bots can never crawl or “see through” flash, so it is necessary on your part to describe what the video is all about.

Text, Text, Text, never say – watch this video !

4. The more useful textual content you add, the more it will help the search engines and human visitors to discover your video from search engine result pages.

5. Always provide the due credit and link back to the video sharing website which is hosting the video. Don’t just link to the homepage, always link back to that page where the video is accessible.

Why? Because when providing the proper attribution for the source, you are actually helping the search bots discover new and useful content which will eventually help in the rankings of your own website in video search results.

6. Google universal search is a bonus source for traffic and helps in generating the buzz. Add your video sitemap to Google webmaster tools, Bing webmaster tools and Yahoo site explorer so that the search engines get an index of all videos that are present on your site.

7. If you do a lot of screencasts or video tutorials, it is a good idea to have a dedicated YouTube channel for your blog and upload your screencasts to this channel. This not only helps in branding but also gives you some boost when loyal readers and search engines find you through the links that are present in the description snippet of the video.

8. Consider registering for a .tv domain name and host all the videos produced by your company in this domain. Some nice examples are: Techcrunch.tv and Webbeat.tv. Though TechCrunch operates as a tech blog on the .com domain, their video content is also separately available on the .tv domain. This helps the search engines and the human readers discover videos from TechCrunch in fewer clicks.

9. Avoid Ajax, JavaScript and fancy stuff for decorating your video page layout. Nothing beats proper plain HTML when it comes to easier crawling and indexing of videos by search bots.

10. Ensure that your video pages are prominently placed within your site’s architecture.

11. It’s always a good idea to provide a separate feed for your video screencasts.

12. Use embedded players and don’t place the videos in pop-ups. It is a general rule of the web that readers don’t ever interact with that ugly looking pop up window.

13. Run a video sharing forum where it is not always possible to add textual content or custom descriptions to the video? Add a really big comment box and encourage site visitors to comment and rate the videos. These comments will provide some description on what the video is all about.

14. Don’t embed the same video on dozens of pages thinking that it will help in video seo. It won’t.

Instead, create a single page to hold the video and link to it from contextually related articles, navigation and other important areas of your site.

15. Use YouTube’s excellent Insights feature to find which of you videos are already popular. Then try creating related and meaningful video content to serve your existing audience. If you serve your loyal readers well, they will spread the word which in turn might bring more links and increased readership.

16. Do some social media promotion like tweeting your videos or sharing them on Facebook. This will attract people to visit your blog and see your videos in the first place. Self promotion is necessary and remember the fact that no one else is going to do it for you.

17. Last but not the least: Place the video higher up on the page, search bots can easily crawl stuff that are present on top of the HTML source.

Video Is the Next “big thing”, so you should devote some time and optimize your site for video search results. I also recommend reading these excellent video seo guides from Yoast, Drew Hubbard and Lisa Barone

And here are a couple of videos where Google engineer Matt Cutts and Rand Fishkin talk about the factors that influence the ranking of videos on search result pages:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxjRjt5pPys

Related reading: How To Optimize Image Only Websites For Search Engines

YouTube Launches Social Pages For Websites, And Here Is Your Guide For Optimizing Video Content For Search Engines originally published on Ampercent

YouTube Now Lets You Remove It’s Logo From YouTube Video Player

Internet

Feature

Tricks and Tutorials

Youtube

Don’t like the presence of YouTube logo on a video and want to embed a YouTube video without the logo on your website? Now you can.

YouTube has pushed two minor upgrades to it’s video player. First upgrade is better preview thumbnails of your video which was a little choppy earlier. There is no way to control which video preview thumbnail appears on the video player once it’s embedded on your website. Since, YouTube dynamically creates the preview thumbnails during the upload process, the preview thumbnails were often assigned randomly.

But with this upgrade, things have changed slightly.

From now on, whenever you upload a new video or an HD screencast with a resolution greater than 480p, YouTube will generate a high definition thumbnail image for the video. This thumbnail image will be used whenever you embed the video on a website or blog, which is nice as it gives a really attractive look and feel to the embedded video.

YouTube says that the video sharing site will automatically assign better thumbnails to your older videos so if any of them still have older thumbnails, they will be replaced by their newer counterparts. YouTube partners on the other hand will have to upload a new thumbnail image to all their videos, if they have earlier uploaded a thumbnail image to any of their videos.

The big surprise however is that YouTube has now provided an option to remove YouTube logo before embedding a video on your website or blog. All you have to do is add ?modestbranding=1 at the end of the YouTube video URL, grab the Iframe embed code or Object embed code and the video player will appear without the YouTube logo.

Here is an example video embedded using the new code where the YouTube logo is missing from the video player

Code For Embedding YouTube Video Without The Logo

In case you want the readymade Iframe or Object embed code for the logo less YouTube video player, here is something for you (just remember to replace the ID with the actual ID of the YouTube video you are embedding).

IFrame Embed Code:

<iframe width="500" height="300"
 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ID?modestbranding=1"
 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
</iframe>

Object Embed Code:

<object width="500" height="314"> <param name="movie"
value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ID?version=3&rel=0&modestbranding=1">
</param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>

 <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="300"

Most of these videos are uploaded by other YouTube users across the globe while some of these videos may be official.

Although YouTube has an official music videos page at youtube.com/music, here is something more interesting for music fans who want to find all the information about a particular singer, music album or a pop artist.

It’s the “YouTube Artist” page which is attached to every music video on YouTube related with a popular music album, band or singer. Whenever you are watching a promotional video or a very popular music video of a singer on YouTube, simply click the link to the corresponding artist page.

On the artist page, you will find more information about the band, can listen to auto playlists, watch recent live shows and learn more about upcoming events (see example).

So if you are a fan of Linkin park and want to find out all the playlists of this particular band on YouTube, click through the artist link and you can find all the music videos about Linkin park at one page. Additionally, the artist page will also contain a full biography of the singer or music band and you can read more information about their recent events or live shows.

Please note that the artist page of a singer or band is not curated or maintained by the channel owner. It’s generated dynamically by YouTube so that fans of a particular band can find all the information about an artist on a single page.

Here is how an artist page of YouTube looks like:

How To Use YouTube’s Artist Page More Effectively

If you have never used YouTube’s artist page before, here are some tips you should remember.

See All the videos of a band or singer: Instead of using YouTube’s advanced search commands, go to youtube.com/artist/<artistname> and you can find all the videos, stage performances and live shows of a band or singer, all on one page. There is no need to recursively search for the artist name over and over again.

Add popular videos of the artist to your playlist: To add a particular video to one of your existing playlists, click the “+” drop-down menu and choose the playlist where you want to add the video to.

Additionally, you can also bookmark a video to your YouTube favorites, add it to the “Watch Later” queue or create a new playlist from a combination of videos on the Artist page. So one good way to download all the videos of your favorite singer is to add them to a unique playlist and then use this desktop utility to download an entire YouTube playlist on your computer, ready for offline viewing.

Find recent Live performances: Another good use of YouTube’s artist page is that you can find out whether a recent live show or stage performance of the same artist is planned or not. If Yes, you can click through the “Events” link and find the location and date of the live performance of the same artist.

Related: More YouTube tips.

Use YouTube’s Artist Page To Find All Music Videos Of A Singer Or Band originally published on Ampercent

Problems Adding YouTube Video in WordPress Posts ?

Blogging

Feature

Wordpress

Youtube

The visual post editor of WordPress is not very good in handling embed codes of web videos that are hosted on video sharing websites like YouTube, DailyMotion, Blip.tv, Vimeo or MySpace. While every video site provides it’s own embed code for videos, which needs to be pasted in the HTML source of a blog post – they sometime don’t work at all.

Example: Sometimes, you may find that you correctly pasted the embed code of a video in the HTML source of a blog post in WordPress but on switching the post editor to normal mode, the video does not shows up. You revert back to the HTML view of the post and find that the video embed code has simply vanished.

This might be a bug in WordPress post editor and I haven’t found any solution to fix this problem. Sometimes, the video embed codes work, sometime they don’t.

The General Way to Add YouTube Videos Within A Blog Post In WordPress

Let’s first see what is the general way to add the embed code of a YouTube video in the HTML source of a blog post, written in self hosted WordPress CMS.

1. Go to the YouTube video page and click the “Share” button. This will show more options e.g short link, sharing links on Twitter, Facebook, HD URL and the embed code of the video, as shown below:

2. You can either grab the Iframe code of the old embed code for YouTube video. I have observed that the Iframe code may fall apart in certain situations while the old code works fine, irrespective of the WordPress Post editor problem as discussed above.

3. Copy the video source code from the YouTube page, open your blog post from WordPress administration area and switch to the HTML view by clicking “HTML” at the right corner of the post editor

4. Now paste the embed code where you want the video to appear.

You are done with the adding part, now save the draft and hit the “Preview” link to preview the page you just created. If the video does not appear in the preview mode – rest assured WordPress post editor has erased the video embed code and you have to find another simpler method which should work without any problems.

Using the oEmbed Method

This is a really quick way to add web videos to your blog posts but many bloggers are not aware of the Oembed feature.

What is oEmbed ?

oEmbed is a format for allowing an embedded representation of a URL on third party sites. The simple API allows a website to display embedded content (such as photos or videos) when a user posts a link to that resource, without having to parse the resource directly.

To embed a YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion video using the oEmbed method, followthe simple steps mentioned below:

1. Copy the complete URL of the webpage which contains the video (remember to copy including http://)

2. Open your blog post and paste the same URL in the Visual mode and not in the HTML source, as shown in the following screenshot:

Adding YouTube Videos in WordPress Posts

3. Remember that the URL should not be linked and should appear as plain text. In short, after pasting the video URL in the post editor, select the complete URL and hit the “Unlink” button once . This will preserve the plain text version of the video URL, without actually linking to it.

4. To align the video towards left, right or in center – you can follow the same convention as that for aligning text.

When you publish the blog post containing the plain text version of the video URL, WordPress or your blogging platform (Tumblr, Posterous for example) will automatically fetch the embed source of the video and dynamically add it to the HTML source of the page.

You might want to read our other related guides on WordPress:

How to embed Facebook videos and Photo albums in WordPress

How to embed only the audio of a YouTube video

Embed YouTube videos with DVD style playback controls

Crop a YouTube video to show only the selected part

A WordPress Plugin To Customize How YouTube Videos Appear In Your Blog Posts And Pages

If you are looking for more customizations and want to edit the width and height of the YouTube video, without having to touch the embed code – install the Smart YouTube WordPress plugin. The plugin allows you to add YouTube videos in WordPress posts, coments, RSS feeds and pages.Additionally, the plugin allows you to define a custom width and height of the video (maintaining a correct aspect ratio) so your video always appears in the correct size and format.

Here is how the settings panel of the plugin looks like:

The plugin actually works with a shortcode format for embedding YouTube videos, which is really easy to remember. YouTube has an extensive movie section at YouTube.com/movies which lets you stream movies and watch them online, without having to download video clips on your computer.

The advantage of choosing YouTube to watch Hollywood or Bollywood movies is that most of the videos are offered on a freemium basis, you don’t have to pull out a credit card or pay any subscription fee, in order to watch movies on YouTube.

Various types of movies are available on YouTube’s movie gallery, this includes old classics, action thrillers, romantic movies, horror movies, documentary, biography, animations, cartoons, science fiction or family shows. If you don’t have DVD’s at home and do not want to download pirated copied of movies from torrent sites, YouTube is surely one of the best options to consider.

However, here is some good news for movie addicts, who regularly search old classics on YouTube.

Google has recently partnered with Sony Pictures, Warner brothers and Universal and these companies will soon upload thousands of full length feature films at YouTube’s movie section. This includes catalog and new releases from independent studios but the only sad thing is that the newer movies will be added on a rent basis, starting at $3.99 per movie. And users will also need a YouTube account to rent movies, which is of course a free sign up.

All the streamed movies will be served in HD format and streamed to your computer directly from YouTube, which means the individual clips can’t be downloaded on your computer using video download tools. Users who have rented a particular movie from their YouTube account can still embed the video on their website or blog, the only catch here is that only those users who have paid the rented price will be able to watch the movie. Those who haven’t will see a trailer video and a link to rent the video on their YouTube account – as reported by Alexia Tsotsis of Techcrunch.com.

I think the rental fees to watch full length movies on YouTube is fairly low but there are two additional requirements. First, when you have paid the amount to watch a particular title, you have to finish watching it within 24 hours (at maximum). The second catch is that YouTube movie rentals will only work for U.S citizens at the moment.

Users having a Google TV can watch YouTube’s premium movies from their browsers but there is again some disappointment for mobile or tablet users; since YouTube’s rental movies will only work in desktop browsers.

Nothing interesting if you don’t want to pay a rental fee for watching movies on YouTube and if you live outside U.S. However, we do hope that in a couple of years, older movies will be added to YouTube’s free movie catalog and users from any country can watch it online; with absolutely no strings attached.

More Full Length Hollywood Movies Coming On YouTube, Sadly On A Rental Basis originally published on Ampercent

YouTube Partners Get The Ability to Schedule Video Publishing At A Custom Date Or Time

Internet

Feature

Youtube

YouTube is now allowing scheduled publishing of videos only for publishers who are enrolled through YouTube partner program. Either you have to upload the video the same day or you have to upload the video on an earlier date and make it “Unlisted”. Later, when you want the video to be available for public viewing, simply login to your YouTube channel and change the privacy mode from “Unlisted to “Public”.

This trick works fine but it’s certainly not comfortable for video bloggers who upload a good amount of videos on YouTube every week. You have to manually change the privacy mode from “Unlisted” to “Public”; when you want your channel subscribers or viewers to know that a new video has been uploaded on your YouTube channel. This is unlike the post scheduling feature of WordPress or Blogger where you can write blog posts and schedule their publishing time at a future date or time.

However, it seems like YouTube is now allowing scheduling of video uploads for publishers who are enrolled through YouTube partner program

Ashish Mohta who runs a Tech podcast channel at YouTube, reports that YouTube is allowing scheduled publishing of videos only for publishers who are enrolled through YouTube partner program. The screenshot he provides shows options to choose a custom publishing date and time along with the privacy level of public, unlisted or anyone with a link

Ashish adds that you have to select the publishing date and time before hitting the upload button on the video upload page of your YouTube channel. Although channel owners can edit the publishing time of a YouTube video later on, but the option will appear only when you have selected “Publish at a custom time” on the video upload page.

This is a useful feature, imagine a situation when you are travelling but want a video to be automatically published on your YouTube channel on a particular date. Simply upload the video from your computer and choose “Publish at a particular time”, pick the scheduled date and finish the upload process.

Next, you can embed the video in a blog post or on your website and schedule your post to go live after a week or so. When the chosen date arrives, YouTube will automatically change the privacy level of the video from “Private” to “Public” so your channel viewers and site visitors can see the video as they normally should.

Note: I also run a screencast channel at YouTube but since I am not a YouTube partner yet, this feature is not yet available in my YouTube account. However, it’s really exciting to know that YouTube partners can now enjoy scheduled video publishing, I am exploring some tricks and workarounds which will allow common YouTube publishers to achieve the same. I promise to write a follow up post, if I am successful in exploring the trick.

YouTube Partners Get The Ability to Schedule Video Publishing At A Custom Date Or Time originally published on Ampercent
