Windows Live Writer Portable – Use it From Your USB
If you Work On Multiple Computers (Like me) then You can easily Carry Windows Live Writer in a USB Stick. You need Not Install Windows Live Writer on Every Computer that You Work.
First of all The Portable App Doesn’t Contain the Installation files. It is just a launcher that Will launch Live Writer on Other computers .You need to Install Live Writer first on Your Computer.
1.Download Windows live Writer Portable Edition (Ver 3) from Techlifeweb.
2.Extract The Files to Your USB drive.
3.Copy All files From C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Writer to WindowsLiveWriterPortable\App\WindowsLiveWriter directory in your USB.

Copy All your Drafts from your Work PC and Save them Anywhere on your USB.When You wish to Use Live Writer on a separate Computer that Doesn’t have Live Writer Installed in it,Just launch the WindowsLiveWriterPortable.exe and Start Using it. (also see : useful windows live writer plugins )
Running WLW portable with Windows Live Writer 2009
In case your Live Writer Version is 2009, You may Face some problems as I did.In that Case Just Install Live Writer from here and Proceed as Above. Thanks Jorge Sierra !
Notes :
1.You Must have .Net framework (Ver 3.0) Installed on the Computer Where You wish to Use Windows live Writer.
2.In some Systems you May not Be able to Open the drafts from the Sidebar. In that Case,Use File—> Open to open the drafts.
My Experience with WLW Portable
I frequently Use Multiple computers for My Work.Sometimes Its My own Notebook,Sometimes It’s my College laboratory,My Home Desktop or may Be an Internet Cafe.So Installing WLW on Every Machine is Not an option. When I am Out of Internet Connection In My Hostel I Just Copy my drafts From My Notebook Into the USB,Plug it in a cafe and post The drafts.
Thanks Scott ! Your App is Very productive and Saves Me Quality time.

Keep working ,great job!
Thanks for the heads up man. This portable version will definitely come in handy when I don’t want to visit the cybercafe with my laptop.
Thanks again
@ Udegbunam Glad to help ! The Portable version is a must if you use Multiple Computers or cafe’s
Hi Amit,
I was trying to install WLW on my USB, unfortunately it is not working for me.While I am launching portable WLW, it pop ups the error,”The Handle Is Invalid” Any inputs to resolve this problem?
@ George : Which version of WLW are you using ?
Amit I am using WLW 2009.Now I noticed that though this application is not running from USB, it is working fine once entire set up is copied to C or D drive. That means there is some permission issues.
@George : May be. Please note that the portable version is not standalone…it is just a Launcher that will launch Windows Live writer. You must have WLW installed on the other computer and the user account should have administrative priviledges.
Best you should make changes to the page subject title Run Windows Live Writer From USB : Windows live Writer portable to something more generic for your blog post you create. I loved the post however.
