How to use Disk Drill to Recover Accidentally Deleted Files in Windows or Mac
To start using Disk Drill’s free data recovery software for recovering deleted files from your computer’s hard drive or the hard drive of external storage, follow the steps below
- Download and Install Disk Drill on your computer from this link.
- Once installed, Disk Drill will show all hard drive partitions and index the content of all the partitions one by one
3. Select a hard drive partition where the original file was kept and then run a quick scan to check to see if Disk Drill is able to find the deleted file. It doesn’t matter if that file has been deleted from your computer’s recycle bin or Trash can, Disk Drill will still be able to scan the hard drive properly and it will show you the deleted file, deleted folder, deleted office documents, deleted photos or videos which were originally in that hard drive.
If you perform a quick scan and do not see any deleted files or folder being shown by Disk Drill, then you can go ahead and do a “Deep Scan”. The Deep scan process takes more time and is more thorough so your chances of recovering the deleted file is higher in the latter case but it takes more time than a quick scan.In our case, the deleted files were shown in the quick scan.
The next step is very simple. Select the file or folder which you want to recover and then hit the “Recover” button
Disk Drill will recover the deleted file and it will put it back to that exact location from where the file was deleted.
It is as simple as that.
In our case, the file was recovered in less than a minute. Bear in mind that the file was permanently deleted from the system and there was no way I could have recovered it without using a file recovery software for mac.
