With not even 6 months gone by the launch of OnePlus 5, the fastest Android phone of the year, OnePlus has already launched an improved version of the device named as OnePlus 5T now. The OnePlus 5T is similar to its predecessor in many aspects like the processor, storage and RAM while other things like the design, display and the camera are improved.
The main highlight of the OnePlus 5T is the new 18:9 aspect ratio based design which has reduced the amount of bezels that were seen on the previous generation of OnePlus devices. OnePlus has also removed the fingerprint sensor from the front panel and has placed it on the rear of the device along with the dual 20 megapixel cameras.
Apart from the hardware, OnePlus has also made some interesting improvements in the software front and one big addition is the new face unlock feature similar to the Face ID on the iPhone X, only much more faster than it. While the face unlock feature on the OnePlus 5T is not as sophisticated as the one on the iPhone X, it is much faster and is a good alternative for unlocking your phone as the fingerprint scanner on the front panel has been removed.
While the device has not yet been released and general users had not gotten a chance to try out the Face unlock feature on the OnePlus 5T, there is a little tweak where you could use the feature to unlock your Android device right now. This trick will however only work on Android devices running Android Lollipop 5.0 or higher but there is no restriction on your device manufacturer.
How To Get OnePlus 5T Like Face Unlock On Any Android Phone
First go to Settings->Security and then select the smart lock option from the menu.
Now enter your pattern or password to pass through the smart lock setup.
Inside the smart lock setup, just select the Trusted face option.
Now before proceeding through the setup of Face unlock on your Android device, you have to remember three important things.
Unlike the OnePlus 5T, the face unlock feature on your device might not be as fast as it is largely dependent on the software. Also it is not as secure as a pattern or a password as sometimes a picture or a video of yours could be used to unlock your device. Finally, if your device does not have any special sensors or flashlights on the front panel, then you might not be able to use the face unlock feature in dark environment.
With these in mind, just click on the setup button to proceed and make sure you are staying at a place with good lighting and less background disturbance.
Give access to your camera settings for the smart lock to begin the scanning. The scanning will begin instantly and you have to place your face within the circle for the smart lock feature to work properly.
Once the scanning is completed, you can either start using the face unlock feature on your Android device immediately or you can improve the facial recognition by scanning your face from different angles and under different lighting conditions.
All you have to do now is to place your face at a reasonable angle to the front camera on your device and as soon as you click on the power button, your device will automatically scan your face and unlock it.
You can see a face icon at the bottom of your lock screen when you press your power button and as soon as your device recognizes your face, it will automatically turn to an unlocked icon and you can just swipe to unlock your phone without entering your pattern or password.
Now remember this might not work perfectly at all times and it might not be as fast and accurate as the face unlock feature on the OnePlus 5T. But it is still good to know your device has this feature.
What do you think of this feature? Does this work well on your device or you are facing any issues? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
