Huawei Announced Mate 8 In China With 6-inch Display

Huawei, the Chinese multi national electronics company recently announced another flagship – Huawei Mate 8. This device came as a successor to Mate 7 from last year. Huawei gained market all over the world and made Nexus 6P recently by collaborating with Google. Smart watches, smart phones announced by this company contain nice features. Coming to Mate 8, the company claims that this device is high end device for the Chinese market.

Let’s take a look at this device.

Design And Display

From the pictures, the design of this device looks premium with metallic finish and curved edges. This device is made of aluminium all over and has a 6 inch FHD IPS LCD screen. To get it right, putting a 1080p display in a huge 6 inch screen would limit display quality a bit since we are seeing 5 inch and 5.5 inch displays these days with 1080p and more display resolution. Even though it wouldn’t be that worst, but as the screen gets bigger, giving a higher resolution improves quality.

Anyway, you can get a bigger screen with decent display. With this bigger displays, there are always both pros and cons. On the bright side, you can use this display to watch videos and play games for fun and at the same time, it would be difficult to carry for some people. Even though the dimensions of this device are unknown at this point of time, the device obviously looks bigger with huge screen at the same time looks thinner.

This device also features a fingerprint scanner on the back right below the camera like Nexus 6P and 5X and available in four colors Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown.

Under the Hood

Mate 8 features brand new Kirin 905 Soc by HiSillicon which was launched recently. This chip is an octa-core unit (four A53 cortex @ 1.8GHz + four A72 Cortex @ 2.3GHz) and it’s got paired with Mali-T880MP4 (at 900MHz) GPU. Mate 8 comes with EMUI 4.0 interface from Huawei backed by brand new Android Marshmallow 6.0

Coming to RAM and storage, there are two possible variants available for this model. 3 GB RAM with 32 GB Storage or 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. We have no information available whether it’s expandable or not as of now.

Clearly, this device got high end processor on paper. So, you can expect that this would run pretty smoothly handling multi tasking, high end gaming seamlessly. Whether you would go for 3GB variant or 4GB variant, you wouldn’t be able to notice the difference as you use it, since in real time we don’t hit highest point of CPU usage that often.

Camera Unit

This device has 16MP Sony sensor with Optical Image Stabilization on the back with f2.0 aperture and 8MP Sony sensor on the front with f/2.4 aperture.

Again, since Sony is known for it’s camera quality, you can expect pretty nice performance from this camera. Even though complete information isn’t available like whether it can shoot 4K video etc, but this would be very good camera interms of performance. Front camera is also would perform well and you can use it for video calling and selfie photos etc.

Battery and Connectivity
This device features a huge 4000mAh battery on the back. Even though it has huge display, since the resolution is less, you can expect nice battery backup from this device. The company claims that the new SoC used in this device has power efficient mechanisms to utilize efficiently, and promises that would get 30% longer battery backup than Mate 7.

Coming to connectivity, this is a 4G enabled dual SIM (nano) device. But if you want to expand the storage, you have to sacrifice one SIM since one slot got dedicated for both SIM and SD Card. This would be a down side of this device as we cannot use both SIMs and a SD Card simultaneously. Even though other connectivity options are not clearly known as of now, this device supports WI-FI, bluetooth, NFC and GPS.

Final Thoughts

This device would be available in China starting fist quarter of next week. Even though the price of this device isn’t announced by the company, it’s got high end features and specs as well. This device got a huge display which is becoming common now that phones and tablets are getting bigger.
