Currently the smart phone market is facing huge competition all over. Demand for smart phones getting increased day by day, eventually hardware becoming cheaper. Companies are experimenting with new features, improved specs with lesser price for increasing sales. It is a very healthy competition to deliver technology into our hands. “Good Phones are getting cheap and cheap phones are getting good.” Even though the average priced mobiles are in demand now, high-priced mobiles with whooping specs have their own market and audience.

Gionee, the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company producing smart phones in Indian market for a couple of years now. This company has recently released Elife E8, as a successor to Elife E7. This guy is priced at Rs.34,999/- on Snapdeal. It is clearly an expensive device and it would be competing with Devices from renowned companies like Nexus 5X> and Galaxy S6. So, let’s take a look at the specs and try to find out whether it is worth a buy.

First things first- let’s start with it’s own unique features.

Although I did use bold to highlight the word “camera” above, it should be more than that. It’s CAMERA. Goinee Elife E8 has a huge 24 mega pixel sensor on the back. Though number of pixels alone do not determine the quality of the camera, This sensor delivers actually great performance. The photos are crispy with appropriate contrast. On the low light conditions, it has Dual LED flash to deal with.

Camera is an asset for this device, without a doubt. This sensor has Optical Image Stabilization to process your images, and includes some nice features such as Geo-Tagging, Touch Focus, Face/Smile Detection, Panorama, HDR,Take Anytime, Professional, Magic Focus, Face Beauty, Pic Note, Smart Scene. You can use these features to get some excellent shots. The company also claims that this shooter can take snaps within no time. You can also take 4-K video videos using this device.

No, we didn’t finish there, yet. The specialty of this shooter is able to take a 120 megapixel resolution image. It’s feature called UltraPixel does that by stitching multiple images together to attain this resolution, when selected. To use this feature, you have to switch to Ultra Pixel mode from your camera. The shots taken in this mode turn out to be with amazing detailing, you can crop small portion of it with detailed quality.

It has 8MP sensor at the front for video calling and selfie purpose.

Fingerprint Sensor

To deliver secured experience to it’s users Gionee included a fingerprint sensor at the back of this device below the camera, same as Nexus 5X and 6P and Honor 7. You can use your fingerprint to unlock your device using this scanner. The sensor works fine and accurate.

Gionee Elife E8 is a curved phone with premium metallic finishing having a plastic removable back panel. The phone looks stylish and rigid with it’s looks.
This phone has a huge 6 inch AMOLED display with 2K(2560 x 1440 resolution) with 490ppi and comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection to avoid screen damage. The display is sharp, with vivid color production and great viewing angles. You can use this bright display to watch movies and play some games.

Clearly, this is largest display compared to any other smartphone. Phones and tablets are getting bigger these days, we can hope that this decision of putting huge display might work.
This device measures 164 x 82.28 x 9.6 mm (lengthxbreadthxthickness). It has larger display with only 9.6 mm thickness. This device is indeed heavy compared to others in hand, it weights approx 200 grams. This device is available in two colors: Golden and Tarnish.

Processing Unit and Software

Gionee Elife E8 has a rocking 2GHz 64-bit MediaTeck Helio Hex10 MT6795 processor coupled with PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU. It has 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which cam be expandable upto 128GB using microSD card. This device runs Android OS, V5.1 Lollipop having Amigo 3.1 customization on top.

As you can see, it performs very well handling multi tasking, heavy gaming smoothly without any lag. You won’t notice any issue while using this device. This device also supports OTG and you can also install apps in external storage if you are out of memory. You rarely face outage of space in this device as it has plenty of internal storage. You can store music, photos, movies and install good number of apps.

Battery Life and connectivity

This device has 3500mAh battery inside. Even though on paper this number seems high, it has to handle a huge display with 2K resolution and high end processing. Final Thoughts

Even though this device has great specs, it is expensive and has to compete with famous companies like Motorola, Samsung. This device got reviews as facing heating problems sometimes with heavy using and extensive usage of ultra pixel mode. Had the company made an attempt to make a device which fits into average price bracket with quality specs, may be it would have reach to more people. That said, if you are a person who want to try a device not from Samsung or Motorola and found it’s features attractive, you can give this a try.
