Google Pixel XL vs OnePlus 3 Comparison – which is better and why

Google has recently launched two new smartphones with their branding. However, the price is high and much more than usual Android devices. On the other hand, OnePlus 3 launched a few months ago, and it costs around Rs. 27999 in India. The surprising thing is both of them are having almost same specifications or hardware. When Google Pixel XL is starting at Rs. 67,000 in India, you should know which one is better between Google Pixel XL and OnePlus 3. Obviously, the Google Pixel XL comes with stock Android, but OnePlus has Oxygen OS 3.2.4, which features some more features than stock Android. Anyway, what follows is a brief comparison between Google Pixel XL and OnePlus. For your information, this is a specification comparison and not an end-user comparison.

Design

The design of Google Pixel XL is quite similar to older iPhone. There is almost nothing new regarding design except the fingerprint sensor on the back panel. It has a typical design. According to some professionals, the build quality is good, but the design is not up to the mark. You will get three color variants aka Very Black, Quite Silver, and Really Blue. On the other hand, OnePlus 3’s build quality is really good, and there is no doubt that the design is good as well. It also has the fingerprint sensor, but that is integrated into the home button on the front. You can find two color variants aka Graphite and soft gold. The dimension of Google Pixel XL is 154.7 x 75.7 x 8.5 mm and the dimension of OnePlus 3 is 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.4 mm. Google Pixel XL weighs 168g, but OnePlus 3 weighs 158g. Although, the dimension is almost same on paper, but you can find a slight difference between the weights.

Display

Display of those mobiles are pretty good and without wasting time, let’s check out the specifications. You will get a 5.5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen on Google Pixel XL and a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel. However, you will get Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with the same size. But, the resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixel. After doing the math, this is confirmed that the Google Pixel XL has better resolution but the overall screen quality is much better on OnePlus 3. For protection, you will get Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both of them.

Performance

Performance depends on the quality of hardware. The Android Nougat running Google Pixel XL comes with Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset along with 2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo Quad-core processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. On the other hand, OnePlus 3 has Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset with the same processor and GPU. The Snapdragon 821 is the newer than 820 version, which was released back in Q4 of 2015. However, you may not find any major difference regarding performance due to this difference. The Google Pixel XL has 4GB RAM along with 32 GB or 128GB of internal storage. At the same time, OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage. None of them has microSD card support. Regarding RAM, OnePlus 3 is much better than Google Pixel. But, talking about the internal storage, you can find Google Pixel XL better.

Camera

OnePlus 3 has a fine tune 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, 1/2.8” sensor and more. On the other hand, Google Pixel XL comes with 12MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.3” sensor and more. As both of them have same aperture but different effective pixels, you will get a sharper image on OnePlus 3. Both of are capable of recording 2160p video at 30FPS. Talking about the front camera, you will get 8MP camera on both of them. However, the difference is you can record 1080p video on OnePlus 3.

Battery

The battery of Google Pixel Xl is quite better than OnePlus 3 since it has Li-Ion 3450mAh battery and OnePlus 3 has Li-Ion 3000mAh battery. Therefore, you will certainly get a little bit of better battery backup on Google Pixel XL.

Talking about the other features, you will get almost same features on both of the mobiles. They have a fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, etc. However, Google Pixel XL has barometer but OnePlus 3 doesn’t.
