Lenovo Vibe S1: First Smart Phone with Dual Front Cameras

Lenovo, the Chinese multinational computer manufacturing company already made a mark in Indian smart phone market by building budget friendly mobiles. This company, back in September, announced yet another smartphone in it’s vibe series- vibe S1. (Earlier we have looked at Vibe P1 which had a 5000mAh battery and came with around 16k). Even though this another smart phone with mid range specs from Lenovo, this device has got a unique feature. It comes with two camera sensors on the front. Well, this would be nice feature from another device for taking better selfies and video calling purpose and the company claims that this device is world first smart phone with dual selfie camers.

The company is trying to announce this device into Indian smartphone market on 23rd of this month, i.e., Next Monday. Let’s take a look at this device and find out what it has to impress us with.

First things first –

The selfie Cameras

As I mentioned earlier, this device got a duo of front facing cameras – an 8MP shooter along with a 2MP one. The 8MP camera has BSI sensor and used to capture the image while the 2MP shooter acts like a depth-field-sensor. Well, what does this mean? In simple words, Using both sensors you would be able to take photos and be able to modify the selfie by inbuilt photo editing tools. As per the company, “Blur” is an effect which allow you to refocus on the selfie up to 3 focal plains , ‘bokeh’ effect to the background of the selfie to give a new style or remove a photo bomber. There is another tool called “Cut-out” using which you can crop a portion of your selfie and paste it in another image.

Going to the back side, this device has a 13 MP Phase-detect Auto focus camera with dual-tone LED flash to handle low light conditions. This camera also comes with a BSI sensor to improve lowlight performance.

As you can see, this is the one of the first devices to have a dual selfie cameras with improved options. Camera would definitely be an asset for this one.

Design and Display

If you talk about the build of this phone, Lenovo Vibe S1 is made up of curved-glass with a metal Aluminium frame all over. This device looks premium and feels nice and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This device is available in two colors: Pearl White and Midnight blue.

Coming to display, Vibe 1S has got a 5 inch Full HD IPS display (1920 x 1080 resolution) with pixel density of 440ppi. In a 5inch screen, 1080p would give great experience for sure, with vivid color production, appropriate brightness and viewing angles.

The measurements of this device are 70.8 x 7.8 x 143.3 mm (breadth x thickness x length) As you can see this is only 7.8mm thick with sleek design and weights 132grams in hand. Overall this device has got a nice design.

Processing Unit and Software

Under the hood,Vibe S1 got equipped with 1.7GHz 64bit octa-core MT6752 CPU coupled with ARM® Mali T760 MP2 (at 700MHz) GPU. It has a 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on board storage which can be expandable up to 128 gigs using Micro SD card. This device comes with Android Lollipop v5.0 installed.

As you can see, this device would perform well and handles multi tasking without any lag. You can play High end games, install bunch of apps and store multi media content such as photos, videos in this device as there is enough memory.

Battery Life

Lenovo Vibe S1 got embedded with a 2420mAh battery with up to 11 days of 2G standby time, 10days of 3G standby time and 26 hours of 2G talktime and 12 hours of 3G talktime.

As you can see, this device would deliver decent battery performance and you might be able to last for a day if you are an average user.

Connectivity and Others

This is a Dual nano-SIM device supporting 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi(802.11 a/b/g/n), Wifi hotspot and A-GPS support. This device comes with Gravitation, Proximity and Light sensors pre-installed and has FM radio too.

This was announced at $299. So we can expect it’s market price would be around Rs.20k. So, if you like dual front cameras and other features of this device, you can give this a try.
