The China based mobile manufacturing company, Gionee has announced yet another variant in their Marathon series, which is famous for big batteries called Marathon M5 Lite. This device is like little brother to Marathon M5 with 4000mAh battery while the later having 5000mAh battery. This particular device already got announced in China last month itself. Now the company made it official and it is all set to hit the Indian smartphone marker at ₹12,999/-

Looks wise, Gionee Marathon M5 Lite has a curvy uni metallic body with mirror design. The device looks bright and gives you premium feel looking at it. Marathon M5 Lite has 5 inch HD IPS display (1280×720 resolution @293ppi) with Dragontrail Protection. This display – being neither larger no smaller, would give you appropriate screen size with nice quality. Even though 720p gives you less quality compared to 1080p, on a 5 inch screen, this resolution works well giving you appropriate brightness, color production and nice viewing angles. Coming to dimensions, Marathon M5 Lite measures 143mm X 69.9mm X 8.5mm and weighs 181.5 grams along with battery. This device is thin, and has less weight with it’s metallic body and massive battery inside.

Under the hood, Marathon M5 Lite has 1.3GHz 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735 SoC coupled with Mali-T720 GPU. Running Amigo 3.1 skin on top of Android Lollipop v5.1, this device has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB flash storage which can be expandable up to 128 Gigs using MicroSD. Again, these are nice specs considering the price bracket. This device would run pretty smoothly handling multi tasking, graphical games , HD video playback very well without any issues. On the memory department, this device is clearly a winner with 3 GB RAM and expandable storage. So you can install bunch of apps, store your favorite photos, videos and stuff without any hesitation. Having Lollipop is a bit of downside for me, but since it got announced in last month, we can expect OTA update soon.

Coming to camera department, Gionee Marathon M5 Lite has 8 MP with LED flash on the back and 5 MP camera on the front. Other features of this camera include Geo-Tagging, HDR, Panorama, Professional, Take Any time, Pic Note, Face Beauty and Magic Focus Modes to play with. Clearly, camera is average in this device compared to other specs in this device, I guess Lenovo decided to make that sacrifice to fit into the given price bracket. You cannot expect best performance in this device, but it would give you decent shots and works appropriately with it’s available pixels. You cannot expect it to take 4K video, but on the bright side, this camera can record 1080p FHD videos. So, that’s a nice feature to have.

Now we’ve come to the another asset of this device, the battery. As I mentioned earlier, Gionee Marathon M5 Lite has huge 4000 mAh battery with 400 hrs of (3G), 450 hrs (2G) and 360 hrs(4G) standby time and 19 hrs (3G), 32 hrs (2G) talk time. With its display and mediocre chipset, this battery could give you great performance without you running for an adapter frequently. Connectivity options of this device include – 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS. This device has Proximity Sensor, G-sensor, E-compass, Motion sensor and Light sensors pre installed .

Overall, Marathon M5 Light looks like a winner in many aspects falling in friendly budget. It has nice display, chipset, great storage, decent camera and huge battery. Gionee is always known for blending specs and price to average Indian user with it’s devices and this variant is no less. If you aren’t fan of HD images, and find this price bracket and specs are apt ,then you can definitely consider this mobile.
