How to Use Chrome and Google for Cortana Search?
You are a Windows 10 user, aren’t you? I know you are quite familiar with Cortana then.
Apple was the first company that brought a revolution in this segment with their Siri application. Ever since Siri captured the minds of techies, all the competitors of Apple have been trying hard to come up with a better alternative.
Cortana went live with the latest Windows 10 operating system of Microsoft. And, they made changes and improvements with every Windows update as well.
The latest addition to the row of digital assistants is Google Assistant. The good news is all the phones running on Marshmallow or Nougat can get it.
Have you ever made a web search using Cortana on Windows 10? If you have, you know their browser Edge will get opened and lead you to a search page on Bing.
Is that what you want? Do you think it is impossible to open your default browser that gets you to a Google SERP?
No, it is possible. Let me help you in doing this.
How to Use Google and Chrome for Cortana Search?
Microsoft has built Cortana in such a way that it should open their own products. Not to mention, Bing and Edge are MS’s brainchildren.
On analyzing the process, you will understand that there are two things to be done in order to use Chrome and Google for Cortana search instead of Edge and Bing.
First One:- Open Your Default Browser instead of Edge
Yeah, you have to open your default browser every time the system gets a command to open a webpage on Microsoft Edge.
Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn’t included any such methods or option on Windows 10, which we can set up.
So, what can you do? Don’t worry! After the deep research, I have come across a tool called EdgeDetector. As you read earlier, what it does is opening your default browser on getting a command to open a webpage on MS Edge.
You can install the application just like you do any software installation. After installing it, go to Ask me anything on the taskbar.
Search anything there. Make sure you get search suggestions. In order to open the browser, click on any of those suggestions.
Now, you get a small box, featuring different applications you can go with. On that, you can see EdgeDeflector on the top. If you want to avoid Edge forever, you can tick the checkbox that says Always use this app.
You can now see your default browser (Chrome or Firefox) getting opened. As we haven’t done anything to redirect Bing to Google, what you get is Bing SERP.
Second One:- Redirect Bing Search Pages to Google
Here we have to redirect the search engine result pages on Bing to Google. It’s simple. All you have to do is installing a small browser extension.
Before getting into this, let me ask you one thing. Which one is your default browser? Google Chrome? Or Mozilla Firefox??
If you are using Chrome, you will have to install an extension called Chrometana.
Bing-Google is the one you need for Firefox.
Install the appropriate extension and enable it. There you go! You can now search anything on the Cortana box with Chrome and Google search engine.
Wrapping Up
I hope you know how to search on Cortana with Chrome and Google. I know the process is a little bit crooked and not recommended officially.
As long as Microsoft doesn’t provide an official and an easier method to do this, we have to keep on using it. I don’t think Microsoft will ever give us that.
