Do you have a dead slow Chromebook? That’s why you are here, right? We all know Chromebooks are not meant for heavy usage. Even with light usage, some Chromebooks may stutter.
In this article, you will read a few tips to understand what slows your Chromebook down and turn them off. Without further ado, let’s get started.
How to Speed up Your Chromebook?
The following are a few steps to avoid the stuttering of your Chromebook and make it response faster.
· Understand What Slows it Down
The primary step to speeding up your Chromebook is realizing the reason behind the lag. We all are familiar with the Task Manager (Ctrl+ Alt+ Del option) on Windows. Similarly, Chrome itself has a task manager.
Once you hit Shift+ Esc, you can see the task manager for Chrome browser. All you should do is analyzing the memory usage column. If any unwanted process eats up a lot of memory, you must close it down.
In case you prefer a more detailed view, hitting Stats for nerds option on the bottom-left portion does it.
· Turn off Rarely Used Extensions
All browsers stutter with too many extensions, so does Chrome. There are some extensions on our browser that we don’t regularly use, still can’t uninstall. If you have such extensions on your browser, you can install Extensity.
Extensity is a browser extension for Chrome, which makes activation and the deactivation easier. Hit the Extensity button on the browser to get a list of add-ons. And, you can enable or disable them from there.
· Reduce the Number of Tabs
Do you open many tabs at a time? Of course, it does affect the responsiveness of the Chromebook.
If you can group the tabs into multiple categories, it will help saving memory and battery life. Then the question arises. How can you do that?
Well, you can install an extension named OneTab. Once you have a lot of tabs on your browser, hitting the OneTab button brings all of them into a single tab. You can restore all of them at once or one by one.
· Check Your Network Speed
Chromebook needs web connectivity all the times. Even though you can use it offline, the full potential can’t be unleashed without an internet connection. Means the slower the connection, the slower the Chromebook performs.
You can restart your modem or restart even the Chromebook itself to get rid of the slow internet crisis. And, you have to make sure the FUP hasn’t been crossed yet if you have any.
· Change a Few Settings
Of course, Chromebook isn’t a full-fledged computer you can fiddle with. For the same reason, there are not many options you can change as well. Nonetheless, you can turn a few to boost the performance.
First, follow Menu>> Settings>> Advanced Settings>> Privacy. There, you can see a bunch of options. No, you shouldn’t turn them off altogether. Look for the following three options.
- Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
- Pre-fetch resources to load pages more quickly
- Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors
· Powerwash Your Chromebook
Powerwashing is a process, in which your chromebook will be reset. You will lose all your stored files. So, it is important for you to move all such files to Google Drive or any other external storage devices.
In order to do that, go to Settings>> Advanced Setting. Then click on Powerwash. There you go! You have to hit Restart button to complete the process.
