Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 – A Glance At Specificaitons

Founded by former CEO of Apple and PepsiCo, John Sculley with the intention of delivering budget friendly smart phones with nice specifications announced SF1 with elegant design and impressive specs under 12K in Indian market. The company also announced another compact variant called SJ 1.5 with lowered specs compared to SF1 and expected to be less priced than that. This device would attract average consumer who wouldn’t want to spend more money on his phone while expecting decent performance. If you are on of those, then this post will help you through.

Design and Display

Unlike SF1 which had a unibody design with metallic accents, SJ1.5 is made up of Polycarbonate unibody with curved touch display. This phone looks with sharp edges at the top and curve edges at bottom. The top bezel looks very thinner as if it doesn’t exists. But the screen and chassis looks separate with colors. Even though this phone is madeup of plastic, the texture looks nice. The company claims that the back of this device has fingerprint coating to ensure you won’t get any prints while holding it.

SJ1.5 also has 5 inch screen as SF1, but comes with lesser resolution, 720p. This IPS display comes with curved glass touch panel with a pixel density of 294ppi. It also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3, Oleophobic coating, to avoid screen damage.

The dimensions of this device are 146 x 73 x 7.95 mm. Compared to SF1, SJ1.5 has slightly less width and little bit thinner and lighter too. It weighs 131 grams in hand due to its build material. SJ1.5 is available in four color combinations.

Chipset and Software

Under the hood, SJ1.5 comes with 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor and runs Obi Lifespeed customized by the company on top of Android v5.1 Lollipop. Coming to RAM and storage, SJ1.5 has 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, which can be expandable up to 32GB using SD Card.

Clearly, compared to SF1, this device got less processing power and storage. That said, this would give you decent performance, keeping in mind that who would want to buy this device. This device gives decent performance for you and would work without any lag. Storage also wouldn’t be an issue since it can be expandable.

Camera

SJ1.5 features a 8MP auto focus OV8865 sensor with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture on the back and 5MP sensor on the front.

You can expect decent performance from this device. The OmniVison sensor present in this camera uses less power and gives decent shots. You can record 1080p (FHD) video with continuous auto-focus using this device. Front camera would fulfill the needs of selfies and video calling in a decent manner.

Battery and Connectivity

SJ1.5 packs 3000mAh batter on the back. Depending the screen and processing power this battery has to handle, you can expect some nice battery backup using this device. You could be able to get all day backup depending on your usage.

SJ1.5 supports 3G only and has dual Micro SIM slots. Unlike SF1, memory card slot is different here. It supports GSM bands 800/900/1800/1900 MHz, WCDMA V1-900/2100 MHz and V2 – 850/2100 MHz. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth V4.0, A2DP; A-GPS and comes with Micro USB v2.0. SJ1.5 comes with Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and Ambient Light sensor pre-installed.

An average consumer who would want to spend little less on the device expecting a decent performance from his mobile and uses his device for basic tasks such as calling, messaging , basic internet and stuff would definitely find this device feasible and appropriate. Even though the official price of this device hasn’t announced yet, this device is expected to be priced around Rs.8500/-.
