Google Pixel 2 vs Pixel 3: Should You Upgrade or Not

You might have already noticed that Google has amplified their Pixel series with the launch of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. If you are a Pixel 2 user and you want to upgrade, this article will let you know whether you should upgrade from Pixel 2 to Pixel 3 or not. Obviously, Pixel 2 as well as Pixel 3 are great mobiles and they can beat most of the phones available in the market. But, as there is not a huge difference between these two phones in terms of specification, you should read this before purchasing the Pixel 3.

Dimension/Weight/Body

If you hold these two phones on your hands, you cannot notice any difference regarding weight and size and that is because they have almost same weight and dimension. The Pixel 2 has a dimension of 5.74 x 2.74 x 0.31 inch and the Pixel 3 has a dimension of 5.73 x 2.69 x 0.31 inch. The weight of Pixel 2 is 143gm and the Pixel 3 weighs 148gm. Both of them aluminum body and Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides. These two devices are dust and water resistance. However, the Pixel 2 has IP67 rating but the Pixel 3 has IP68 rating.

Display

The display of Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 are almost identical. As the new device doesn’t have notch, you cannot find any big difference at all. Being said that, you can find 5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen on Pixel 2 and 5.5-inch P-OLED capacitive touchscreen on Pixel 3. As the display of Pixel 3 is quite bigger, there is a difference in the screen resolution as well. The Pixel 2 has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with 16:9 aspect ratio but the Pixel 3 has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels with 18:9 aspect ratio. As mentioned earlier, you will get Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both of the device so that you can ditch scratches and all.

Chipset/RAM/Storage

This is an emergent thing that you should check out before purchasing any mobile. Obviously, you can find some differences in the processor since Pixel 2 has Octa-core Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset but the Pixel 3 has Octa-core Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 chipset. Both of the mobiles have same amount of RAM and internal storage i.e. 4GB of RAM along with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. However, the graphics are difference as Adreno 540 is included in Pixel 2 and Adreno 630 is included in Pixel 3. If you want to expand the storage using SD card, this is not possible – no matter which device you buy.

Camera

Although you cannot find any key difference on paper, but the picture quality will say everything. The picture quality of Pixel 3 is much better and the camera is much smarter than the other device. On paper, the Pixel 2 has 12.2 MP, f/1.8, 27mm lens on the rear side. The Pixel 3 has 12.2 MP, f/1.8, 28mm lens on the back side. However, you can notice a difference on the front side since the Pixel 2 comes with one camera setup but the Pixel 3 has two camera setup. Being said that, you will get 8 MP, f/2.4, 27mm wide-angle lens on Pixel 2 but you will get 8 MP, f/1.8, 28mm wide-angle lens and 8 MP, f/2.2, 19mm ultra wide-angle lens on Pixel 3.

Other Features

The Pixel 2 users might not get some important features such as protection from spam call, Top Shot, unlimited photo storage, and so on. The best thing is you can find Google Stand support for Pixel 3 and Titan security chip for protecting your lock screen and overall phone.

Battery

There is a slight improvement in Pixel 3 as it comes with Li-Po 2915 mAh battery whereas the Pixel 2 came with Li-Ion 2700 mAh battery.

Price

The price of Pixel 3 is quite higher than the Pixel 2. The Pixel 2 is priced at around 700 EUR when the Pixel 3 is priced at 860 EUR. However, it depends on the storage variant you want.
